HELLO TO ALL THE HOMIES IN SECVILLE AND ANTITHEOCRA! :D
Me and Melpomene decided to coordinate and host a collaborative contest!! WOOT WOOT!<33
NOTE: This is a writing/art contest! :-))
THE THEME:
***acceptance vs isolation.***
PROMPT:
Write and/or draw what acceptance OR isolation means to you. What do you feel/see when you think about acceptance/isolation? Express it in either writing, a drawing or maybe even both!
EXAMPLES:
ISOLATION
‘’CONNECTION ERROR
I see a lot of people on a daily basis:
Faces framed by skip, pause, subscribe.
Imperfect people on paper pages.
Podcast voices, online tribes.
Childhood friendship was practically effortless. Play is a good common denominator; proximity is another good one. All of that, of course, matters not later on, as people grow self-aware. So, we made a few close friends instead, from the crowd of peers, and perhaps those bonds did hold dear until… life and responsibility pulled us adrift. It was organic and unavoidable. We still meet up, every once in a blue moon, when we happen in the same locality at the same time.
I see a lot of people on a daily basis:
Inside asterisk virtual cuddles.
Smiley faces throughout online spaces.
Game avatars, 3D-models.
Uncertainty set in sometime during high school. New relationships just seemed… less. Less meaningful, less real, less lasting. Corona really only finished the job. Stagnation. Now individuals feel as strange as crowds always did. Although I doubt that anyone else notices – for it is all in my head anyway. I mimic sociability, I mimic connection, and the world moves on.
I see a lot of people on a daily basis:
Strangers inside shops, cars, newspapers.
Signatures following e-mail verses.
Quiet brothers, waving neighbors
.
You’re overthinking it, I tell myself. There does not need to be anything profound to interaction. It’s just being together and enjoying companionship. That’s all there is to connection. And yet – when a few months later – I don’t remember people’s names or even if we’ve talked before, I wonder if there’s something wrong with me. A simple human error, a connection error.’’
