How many of you Bimbolanders pick up the small change when you see it on the street? Am I unusual because I pick up discarded or lost coins when I see them?
Peace and love to you all.
Peace and love to you all.
For me it depends.Thats very interesting, i've never heard the part about it being good luck if it heads or bad if its not before. Now of course I know that, it may mean that I too won't pick up the coin if its face down.... Until I forget or the amount of coinage negates the luckiness. You see If you're ignorant of a fact or superstition then it is much easer to choose to either do or not do something. For instance I never knew it was bad luck to view a Full Moon through glass, now whenever I happened to see the Full moon through glass I have to stop and do a ritual that negates the bad luck, I look quite the fool sometimes turning round three times patting my head. I never questioned the old lady at the hospice when she told me this superstition I just took it as real. Maybe I'm a fool, maybe i'm just gullible.
The relevant one that I'm thinking of (& why it depends whether or not I'll pick up change when I see it) is that if you see a penny lying about on the street or the sidewalk to always pick it up if it's face-up & it will give you good luck! ...But if it's the opposite & the penny is face-down then never pick it up or it'll be bad luck. (This is one of the supposedly "Irish" superstitions that my Grandpa taught me that I don't exactly fully believe in. But my luck is already so terrible that I'd just rather not take the chance of making it any worse haha).
Peace and love to you all.
I always pick up coins. There is a saying in my country which in English roughly means if you don't appreciate the small things, you're not worth the bigger things. So even it is it just a cent, I pick it up.
Like a Magpie.... :PTo add to Chum's reply, whenever I see a penny that is tails up, I turn it over to heads and then leave it, so that the next person who sees it can pick it up freely without incurring the bad luck. :)As for the other change I see around, yeah, I pick them up, I can't resist shiny objects on the ground.
ChumDumpster wrote:I don't see that as being 'gullible', Jan. I just think some people are more prone to believe in (or follow, even if they don't really believe that anything bad is going to happen either way) superstitious than others. I have a few things that I follow, so does Cum. We don't generally believe that the superstitions are quote unquote, "real" (or...at least not that they can do us any lasting damage, anyway). But I'm definitely more superstitious than she is (even though I only follow a few). And yeah, I think sometimes it is a lot harder to not start doing something once you've heard of it lol.For me it depends.Thats very interesting, i've never heard the part about it being good luck if it heads or bad if its not before.
