1. We are all imitating here, this community is a simplification of the big wide world that we live in so your opening point is senseless.
2. If your focus wasn’t so negative and narrow (i.e. you raise and make poverty a singular issue - why?) then you might consider that the theme is wide open to interpretation and given that we are part of a wonderfully diverse community that is generally characterised by having a positive and supportive outlook I assumed that most people would create looks that would focus on positive sub-themes and behaviours such as resilience, resourcefulness and strength - I offer my look below as an example of what I had in mind.
3. I appreciate that you have your own opinion and disagree with my suggestion but there is no need to take a cheap shot. In saying publicly that my suggestion is “not poggers” and that I “should feel bad” you are shaming me. In future you should give some thought to the words you use, they have power, and hold back from making such comments.

You probably feel like you are protecting people but you are in fact doing the opposite. Comments and attitudes like yours marginalise.

sarah, i can't speak for stag but i know that your pbfc theme could garner some negative looks! some people do view runaways and homeless people as slobs or lazy and if your theme was the voted pbfc theme, we could see some very repulsive looks, i think evidence of this happening would be the seven deadly sins theme were people used the fatsuit/ miss boombo outfit to represent gluttony. a lot of people took offense to those looks and nobody wants something like that to happen again, so people are upset with your theme before something like that can happen again

Thank you Pierrot for responding so intelligently and thoughtfully, I appreciate your views and positive commentary. I agree that the theme i proposed will attract some negative looks, but then practically every PBFC theme does. People create negative looks for different reasons. Some people have a negative mind set and tend to naturally default to a creating negative looks, themes may trigger negative emotions in others due to life experiences or they may otherwise be feeling depressed and so they may create negative looks that reflect their feelings, while others may simply create negative looks without having any emotional connection to a theme but simply like the aesthetic. It is right that we should be considerate of the themes that we present for PBFC competition, we do not want to unnecessarily traumatise people. But should we censor everyday themes (i.e. those that aren’t typically linked with trauma) because we fear that someone could create a negative look and that someone may react badly to it? We should consider the positives. Those with negative mindsets who creative negative looks may be forced to think about their look and mindset when it is compared against other peoples positive looks. Perhaps some of these people might even see that there are different perspectives on a theme in the world to their own and start thinking differently (more positively). And people who feel emotional (about a theme or in general) often get therapeutic benefit from creating so called negative looks (I know i do) because it helps them express how they feel in ways they can’t otherwise. We should embrace and foster not censor and fear communication. Perhaps if we did we would we might better appreciate the issues that we are all experiencing and dealing with and take better care of one another. Having said all that, I am happy if people consider the theme I suggested to be too traumatic to be considered as suitable for the PBFC.
