Is it July already? Really? Time flies, I swear...
All of Europe is now alive with the soccer championship. Copa America is also running at the same time. So on this occasion, let's talk about money in sports.
Did you know Cristiano Ronaldo earns  €31 million a year? That is around €63 per .. minute! Do you think that is fair?
On the one hand, we have a passionate man who has dedicated his entire life to training and development. Not to mention the fact that you just have to be born with certain skills and they are not available to everyone. And for all these factors, you definitely deserve payment.
On the other hand, who do you think should earn more? A footballer who provides us with entertainment from TV screens once a week? Or maybe a doctor who, after years of study, internships and working in difficult conditions, saves our lives?
Or maybe a better salary is also due to the bus driver who takes you to work or school every day? After all, the moment you get into a vehicle, it cares about your life and safety.
What's your opinion?

Really good discussion, here in Brazil teachers have to work 2 jobs to make ends meet in horrible work conditions in schools, meanwhile a businessman's son will have millions doing nothinh his whole life.

I'm surprised more people aren't discussing this...

I certainly think that some professions are overpaid.
I understand, at least in part, that movie stars & professional athletes put a lot of time & energy into their jobs. But even within these fields, pay is not equal. Women football/soccer players make less than male football/soccer players, even though it's the same sport!

Healthcare workers, on the other hand, are actually underpaid considering the time & effort they spend. Where I live, most healthcare providers (not just doctors) need advanced, graduate degrees & need to have completed unpaid internships/residencies/supervised practice programs. So, we rack up expensive loans & then only make enough to pay for the bare minimum.

I don't have a TV. I haven't been able to afford internet in years. I don't own electronics, like a tablet or smartwatch, just my smartphone  & that's an older model. When my car died, I bought a used car, which Im still paying for 3 years later. All of my furniture is second hand. I  even buy many clothes second hand, although I do buy new underwear. I don't spend money on alcohol or illicit drugs. I don't eat out often because it's too expensive. I can't afford to take a vacation every year. My money goes towards rent, food, loans, medical bills, phone bill, gas for the car, car insurance--basics.

Then, I look at my brothers who are making more than me despite less education.

I am not sure what the solution is,  but I do think the distribution of wealth is unfair.

i don't mind the millionaires. it is possible to become a millionaire through hardwork alone and often doesn't have any...sinister undercurrent. billionaires on the other hand? you cannot get there without some sort of exploitation or shady dealings going on, either of your workers or somewhere along the supply chain. someone (many someone's) suffer for their profit margin. musk is the child of apartheid emerald mines, and has used child labor for the cobalt mines used to make lithium batteries

bezos? workers are exploited. these two alone could easily change the lives of millions if they (and the top shareholders!) took a pay cut. it wouldn't change their lifestyle (AGAIN THEY HAVE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS), they just would have slightly less money comparatively. at what point is enough enough? they're just hoarding wealth and it isn't going to end well.

I believe that there should not be a cap on careers that have to do with intrinsic drive and talent such as sports or music. After all, there was nothing worthwhile artistically that emerged from the Soviet Union. (Bolshoi existed long before that). It comes from ambition and drive. Let people pay what they feel is worthwhile for downloads and concert tickets.

In the case of professions that come from training; like driving, teaching, medical, janitorial, (all modern health related, really) there ought to be different ways to address the issue of professional poverty.

The university fees should be reformed in some way to actually match the means of the students and future earnings while allowing for the continued administration of the universities themselves.

There should be programs where people can apply to live/work for a set number of years and then school fees are waived because the value of their work based on experience was valuable enough to defray costs by service to society. (I know AmeriCorps exists. But something more standardized across the nation could help a lot) I also believe there was some sort of program where doctors could be assigned to poor, rural locations to work a number of years in places of greatest need and knock off student debt in an expedited rate? The federal and state government have standardized salary amounts for bureaucratic professions; instead of only applying to government employees, there ought to be something like that if you enter certain professions that are important to society. Enough to match inflation and be housed.

It's terrible that teachers and nurses are being priced out of housing in certain cities. People are born in those cities; children need to be educated no matter where they are. It's not fair to force teachers to commute 2+ hours just to show up BEFORE class and then after.

I believe it's not a question of "more" or "less" but enough for the local cost of living conditions. There should not be a one-size-fits all solution; the real world is not like that.

hope its ok that im opening this up again<3
would love 2 hear how yall handle money!!! i've always had such a hard time saving money, but i recently got a new method that is working SO WELL and im saving SO MUCH money
basically, when i get my paycheck, i start by paying what needs to be paid, bills, rent, all that stuff. then i transfer a humble amount to my savings account (just over $70) and i divide the final amount of money i have left by the amount of days in the month. thats my budget for the day. if i spend less, the amount rolls over to the next day so i can spend my daily budget + whats left from the day before on that day. if i end up with more than $150, the count resets and i'll just start at my daily limit again.
this is my first month trying this, but its really working out for me so far!!! in this way i dont have to punish myself by never buying anything, but i get to save up for the things that i want, PLUS it stops me from impulse buying, bc i have to assess "do i really need this?" and is it worth breaking the budget for.
im really glad this is working for me and i hope its gonna continue hehe
