It occurred to me today that some food is always disappointing it doesn't matter how its cooked or if eaten raw still doesn't do it for me. One such food is prawns they always without fail disappoint me,  It doesn’t matter where you get them whether they are expensive or not they always disappoint. They lack flavour, they are over cooked most of the time so become tough or they are just so salty you can’t taste anything but the salt.

I was curious if anyone else feels like that about any types of food?

I find myself asking that if you order prawns/cook prawns/eat any prawns, and they've always tasted bad to you.. doesn't that just mean you don't like them? Or am I missing something?

this might be an extremely hot take but for me its Mac & Cheese! Like, yes its totally a case of "I just don't like it" but its disappointing because Mac & Cheese always LOOKS so tasty, and so many people love Mac & Cheese, but i've just never enjoyed it, no matter if its from a restaurant or from a microwavable tub. Doesn't really matter now since i'm lactose intolerant, but yeah

The thing is I am drawn to them and want them to be delicious. It's not that I don't like them, sometimes in China Town in a real Chinese Cafe (one the Chinese eat in not a tourist trap) they can be fantastic in dishes. However when back home and bought from the local supermarket or local takeaway they are just terrible. It's been years since I've had a good prawn. There is only one exception and they are Brown Shrimp, they do pack a punch and taste great. However they are very hard to find in my local area.

That's interesting Ratthia, I used to love my Mothers Mac n cheese. Then a friend made me some and I have to say wow it was amazing, however whenever I buy a shop bought ready made they are always a disappointment.

I personally like prawns, but when overcooked they're definitely not as good (as well as the being expensive part you mentioned). It's one of those foods that shouldn't be in the pan for too long lol. Have you tried cooking them yourself? I've had some good results after marinating them in lime juice with a little salt and then briefly frying them with some garlic and onions.

Anyways, I've bitched about scarlet eggplants in another thread but I've never been able to enjoy it. Usually the first bite isn't so bad, but it always has this bitter aftertaste that makes me gag lol. According to the internet, there's a way to reduce that but I haven't cooked it myself yet so

Same! Everyone always hypes up mac and cheese and it looks great but whenever I taste it it's just an automatic nope. Same with most cream based soups

Crevette Cocktail

i grew up on a coast, and let me tell ya, the difference between fresh and frozen prawns is HUGE. they're always rubbery and bland.

i'm always disappointed by cheese pizza. without toppings, it's just... meh. not bad, but not as good as i want it to be.
