Welcome to "Friction & Fabric"! I am your host, the one and only LoveSoldier!
Friction & Fabric will spotlight users whose outfits and style are next level, put together layer by layer and instinct by instinct. Here, fashion is a process, a reflection of being and the ultimate form of self-expression; the users interviewed will not only walk us through their outfit-making process but give their own insight on the current state of fashion here on the XL Forum.
Today we’ll be talking to a very…infamous player on the site, popular for her antics on the forums and x-feed and a long track record of Agnostiphobia…everyone welcome Miruu!
✼ •• ┈┈┈┈๑⋅⋯ ୨˚୧ ⋯⋅๑┈┈┈┈ •• ✼
There’s something I must…explain to all the readers at home right now. Something very…awkward.
You know my wife and beloved Agnostican DaisyDear? Yeah, well, Miru is her ex-wife…an ongoing and very strange relationship I’m sure you can all understand. I’m currently seeking refuge in Atheista as a tyrannical maniac has executed our state minister, but I am Agnostican through and through, now Miru on the other hand? Very…interesting record. After being caught multiple times calling Agnosticans the G-slur (read: Greenie), raising money via GoFundMes for Agnostican resource centres and pocketing it to fund her lavish lifestyle, threatening the natural wildlife and perpetuating many harmful, agnostiphobic stereotypes about us being drug abusers and such, she’s also something of an agnostic fetishist.
Believe me readers when I tell you the chairs weren’t the only thing making me uncomfortable in this interview.
…Hello. I didn’t expect you to show up…Could you please introduce yourself to the readers.
“hii, whats up im miru, 23, and i never learned how to read. ximbo passport no. 190773.”
We both tried to get comfortable, having made a truce to keep Daisy happy, our lord and saviour, however the studio got hit simultaneously with a flood and massive forest fire- while thankfully almost all of the equipment and building was left unscathed, our chairs were reduced to rubble and we are currently having to conduct these interviews sitting on fire wood which keeps splintering and poking us in the ass. Readers, despite what they might tell you, wood does NOT go there. We are desperately looking for new management
welcome Friction & Fabric I guess. to start off with, how long have you been on the site/making outfits on here?
“in may my account will be turning three years old, so 2022. though i didnt join my first contest until last year! i was scared y'all.”
Scared of what exactly? Well, that we’d find out about her track record of agnostiphobia of course. Despite only having joined 3 years ago, Miru is already level 100 (one of only 154 people to ever reach such an accomplishment) and has served in fashion police, making quite the name for herself. Despite not having won a PXFC yet, the May PXFC continues to look promising for her.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations for your outfits? Can be real life models/designers or people on here.
Miru hummed to herself, glancing around the room to notice the very small cast on set, unfortunately my assistant got captured by a witch.
“The pink + green color combination comes from mitsuri kanroji, and the alien bit i took from doja cat's need to know music video. i like to think i made a slutty alien girl you could find dancing in the background!”
“xod, there's so many people here that inspire me. i could be here all night. since day one i've always been amazed by scacey, deoag, NICHE SYNDROME, mizuno, sihyeon, alexa pro, ambercrystals, audrey_lynn, viscerae— they were some (some!!) of the first people whose outfits i saw and went "oh my god, you can do that??" lately, i always look up to whatever fellow pink ximbos tibby, lovesoldier and daisydear are cooking.”
Interesting she lists only Agnosticans. Trying to hide something? Of course, we are all fashion icons, it’s a very serious sport in Agnostica.
“pollyx's (x.i.p) makeup and layering skills BLEW my mind— the kinds of outfits that made you zoom in and enjoy every pixel. shoutout eunyce for keeping it b&w ALWAYS and reivalentine for that iconic passionate vibe she always has”
Rest in peace Pollindra “Pollyx” Pol-Lynx.
To follow-up, do you have any specific XL designers whose items you frequently use in your outfits?
“all the shiny, detailed kimdracula items are just chef's kiss— some of their stuff has that plasticky, PVC look to them. if my ximbo was a polly pocket i'd be chewing on her kimdracula fluffy tied blouse (green). on that note, viscerae's latex boots. i own every single color. literally. they also look like they'd be great to chew on as a five year old, which is a win in my book. materialboy's tutu skirt is just iconic in all its colors and lately i've been obsessed with their lace flapper dress.”
If the viewers take anything from this interview, let it be that Kimdracula’s designs are a great starting point no matter the occasion! They’re beautifully detailed and almost ‘plastic’ looking as Miru notes, great whether you need a pop of colour or a more simple item to take the back-seat.
“I also had a thing where i made like, four or five outfits using pollyx's heart halo headress because i was just so unhinged about it. i love detailed patterns.”
I can’t deny, the heart halo headdress is a classic, I used it in my own PXFC outfit this month! I’d highly recommend it especially if you’re planning to do outfits that involve your ximbo looking ‘ethereal’ or godlike.
Whether it be for contests or for fun, how do you come up with an outfit? Are there specific places you go for inspiration (e.g. Pinterest, instagram)
“most of the time, pinterest! also like daphnee once shared, glitter graphics has some sickass illustrations that are easier to replicate than some of the stuff you see on pinterest. its also fun to look up "[character] halloween costume" to see what kinda twist people give to a character's design, i tend to take inspiration from the pinterest girlies when i try a cosplay look.”
Rest in peace Daphnee…gone but not forgotten…we will avenge you…
Are there any staple pieces you find yourself using in your outfits?
“boa hankock pastel pink wig! i think that's like, the hair miruu was born in. also alienprincefromvenus' tiefling tail of course. (i didnt know that was a dnd thing, wow.) and xtina_723's 60 'slower lashes + torrenoia's astro princess ridiculously long lashes -their words, not mine- carried my xareer (that's ximbo career btw) for literal YEARS. also, alyssamoon's tulle throw jacket is in five of my outfits and like, three others i made as a newbie. what a versatile little thing.”
If you use digitals, what digitals do you frequently use?
“i'm in love with digitals. perhaps to a fault. sparkles, hearts, fog, stars, bubbles, give me everything.”
“alyssamoon's miley cyrus iheartradio grain filter is a must have, in my opinion. really makes an outfit look put together. unicorncorpse's bimbo glowing power should be in your closet yesterday, too. bimbl6's vignettes give a cool deep effect to my outfits and i'm happy we have so many colors to choose from!”
I must agree on that note about the iheartradio grain filter! Have you ever had an outfit look just a little off? A little lacklustre even? I find that this amongst some other digitals instantly elevates it, harmonising the colours and making your character look a little less garish.
“I gotta say, the latest vday digitals changed my life— pollyx's opulent oval frame feels like heart halo headress' older, wiser sister, and melpomeme's ornamental frame is a current favorite as well.”
The valentines digitals are perfect for that valentines day card look, the borders and frames adding a nice, simple finish to any outfit you could imagine.
Do you prefer to keep your outfits simple or accessorise to the max?
“i dont know how much is too much. that's all im going to say.”
My assistant (not the one who got captured by a witch, the one who is a professional rollerblader) commented ‘we can tell.’ Miru gave him the finger.
What outfit do you usually display on your profile as your 'main' outfit and why?
“hm. usually, it's my PXFC outfit, or whatever i make for a contest— it feels like a way to promote the contests, and for PXFC it's fun to see everyone following the same theme, so i like to add to that. however, my last "main" outfit was my state wars pink mermaid look.”
Currently Miru’s outfit is her PXFC submission, featuring an array of star motifs in the crinoline skirt, necklace, sword and border, The dark purple skin she dyed with sharpies complimenting the pink-purple gemstones stuck on all across her body, I must say I admire the lengths she went to with this one. Miru pulled me to the side after this one, whispering “tell them about the cat face.”
Readers, Miru’s face currently is stuck at a :3 expression. That’s all I’ll say.
Finally, I had one last question, a bonus question if you will.
When outfits glitch they're replaced with a girl with sunglasses (at least for bimbos), what are your thoughts on sunglasses girl?
Miru went pale as I described her, leaning back in her seat (I must remind you we are sitting on firewood so she fell off and then had to get up and sit back down and then fell off and got up and sat back down.
“oh xod. she terrifies me. there's something so uncanny about her: the clearly outdated fashion taste, that awful yellow shade, those soulless, crazy eyes staring into your soul from behind her huge sunglases (why are they so big, girl? what you hiding??) i just can't look at her for too long without thinking she's right behind me. and she can come and take your place anytime! how can you not be scared of that? i think i need some water. can you get me some water?”
We did give her some water. It had only small glass shards, as this is necessary for the Agnostican ecosystem. And with that, our time was up.
