She:kon (greetings) Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating, and to those refraining from celebration

Today is Thanksgiving Day, and it is also the National Day of Mourning, which remembers the genocide of millions of Native Americans and their ongoing erasure today. In giving thanks today, let us also reflect and act to stop the ongoing genocide of America's Indigenous Peoples.  ♡

I would love to hear about everyone's exciting plans for the day, or any family traditions or celebrations your having !

Happy Thanksgiving, Yanks, hehe!  We Canucks had ours already up in the Great White North last month.  I hope you all have time to enjoy your friends and family, lots of food, and of course, football!  "Turduckens!"

What’s important to me is the truth. The dead are not honored and the suffering are not comforted by misinformation.

Can we not lose sight of the point of the Thanksgiving holidays though?  To GIVE THANKS for all of the GOOD and POSITIVE things!  Let's not to dwell on negativity and sadness.  I once saw a quote from an African-American businesswoman: "Be a victor, not a victim!"  Love that!

OK, final thought: if avoiding drama in the forums is really important, perhaps the original poster should reconsider the wisdom of casually implying that Americans are complicit in an ongoing genocide. Especially in a post titled Happy Thanksgiving.

In other words, the drama was in the original post. The rest of us are just reacting to it.

Ongoing genocide referring to the current status of how indigenous peoples are treated in the eyes of the people as well as the government. Such treatment being  Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), an epidemic of violence against indigenous women in Canada, the United States, and Latin America.  MMIW has been described as a Canadian national crisis and a Canadian genocide.  From 2001 to 2015, the homicide rate for Indigenous women in Canada was almost six times as high as the homicide rate for other women, representing "4.82 per 100,000 population versus 0.82 per 100,000 population. In the US, Native American women are more than twice as likely to experience violence than any other demographic. One in three Indigenous women is sexually assaulted during her life, and 67% of these assaults are perpetrated by non-Indigenous perpetrators. American Indians and Alaska Natives are 2.5 times as likely to experience violent crimes and at least 2 times more likely to experience rape or sexual assault crimes compared to all other races.More than 4 in 5 American Indian and Alaska Native women, or 84.3 percent, have experienced violence in their lifetime. Homicide is the third leading cause of death among American Indian and Alaska Native women between 10 and 24 years of age and the fifth leading cause of death for American Indian and Alaska Native women between 25 and 34 years of age.In 2017, the top three cities with the highest number of MMIWG cases were Seattle, WA (45); Albuquerque, NM (37); and Anchorage, AK (31). The top three states were New Mexico, Washington, and Arizona. In the U.S. and Canada, an average of 40 percent of the women who were victims of sex trafficking identified as American Indian or Alaskan Native.  Indigenous people in Canada face substantial socioeconomic inequality compared with non-Indigenous Canadians due to impacts of colonization, such as forced removal from their land and communities. Thousands of Indigenous children have died in residential or industrial schools, still being discovered in mass graves as recently as earlier this year..

I mean nothing toward anyone, my post might seem shocking to you but it was to help introduce to issues to those who weren't as aware to dive into the topic. No disrespect toward any people was meant to be shown in my original post, Awareness only
