As someone who went to a typical American middle class suburban school district I didn't really see the cartoonish bullying seen in 80s and 90s era pop culture but I didn't see athletes and preppy girls aspiring to become scientists or engineers.

Were stuff like fantasy novels, tabletop role playing games, science, and engineer disrespected and the people who were into that stuff disrespected in 90s American schools?

I wasn't in the popular group or the intellectual group in my school years and for a while I looked at frat bros and their hot girlfriends as the coolest people on Earth. I saw owning a Mansion, a German made car, having a nice vacation each year, and getting a cushy office job to pay for it all as the ultimate aspiration. I was obsessed with "Organic Food" because it was what upper class people in my area were obsessed with.

But the past several years have seen my worldview radically change.

The return of human spaceflight on American made rockets awakens something inside of me.

I also check out Apple TV during the quarantine out of boredom as well as curiosity and one show on there feeds into that.

The West Coast heatwaves made me believe in "Global Warming" and "Climate Change".

As I fell deeper into the rabbit hole of space exploration and science I become more excited about stuff like GMOs, nuclear power, and fusion power.

Now I think astronauts, scientists, and engineers are the coolest people ever.

Now I believe America's reliance on Russia for human spaceflight during the 2010s to be a national embarrassment.

I am ashamed at how vapid I was.

Now Hollywood level lifestyles with massive mansions, private jets, and yachts disgust me.

Now I am unhappy with how little has been done with the issue of global warming and the our progress in human spaceflight.

The rise of conspiracy thinking also horrifies me. Some of the people I knew from my middle and high school years are saying crazy and dumb stuff like "Space is Fake".

I also get into sci fi thanks to checking out Mass Effect during the quarantine and thanks to a bonus disk find out it was developed by a group of people who were fans of Dungeons & Dragons during the 80s.

I wish American society would be aspirational instead of vapid.

I wish American society would aspire to lead the world to stop global warming and aspire to lead the world into a future with fusion powered spaceships, Moon bases, Mars bases, asteroid mining, and O'Neill cylinders. It would also be cool if we found out if there was life in the underground oceans of Europa, a Moon of Jupiter in my lifetime.

I wish Americans would aspire to use genetic engineering to ensure there would be no more anti intellectual mean girls and dumb athletes and the only people were smart people and creative people who are nice and kind as well as good looking.

I wish Americans cancelled the world "Nerd" and everyone in the future was smart.

I believe Americans should take control of the world's future.

you're so real for that, as much as I love acting dumb for others or to get what I want I love sitting alone in my room and collecting my thoughts about our society, and how could we help or change it. I think if more people were nuanced and understanding and is open minded, America would be better as a whole, but America purposely keeps people unintelligent to keep them under rule, and that's why I think a lot of America is actually really smart, but we are groomed and trained into being dum dums!!! I can slowly feel my past self that was obsessed with studying and knowledge fade a bit, and I don't like it. so turn off your phone, or whatever, put some music on and let your creativity go wild. I feel like art will be the savior in all of the hell that is our world.
