So - I'm at my last straw with taking pills. My gyno - as lovely of a person she is - has caused me soooo much stress with the perscriptions. The cycle takes 28 days - and so I have 28 pills per cycle. This woman writes 2-pack perscriptions, each avaible for pickup after 2 months. Which results in me having to skip one a couple of times to be able to start the next box with the first day of the cycle - which I'm afraid might mess up my cycle aaand Xod forbid - lessen the anti-conception. And now currently I'm in an actual pickle - her office only writes down perscriptions on mondays and thursdays - which I have forgotten and wasn't able to pick up a new perscription and have started my cycle basically raw.
So, I am thinking of getting a hormonal IUD - it's supposed to work better than pills with cramps and bleeding - and also be safer. They'll for sure be less stressfull, I'm really forgetful and sometimes forget to take the pill or even take them twice a day on accident. But I do have some concerns. A) IUd vs Pills is kind of a classic tale of Subscription vs Lifetime License. It's theoretically more affordable for me to buy pills, rather than spend a big sum at once, that funds for will still be chipped away from buying pills in the meantime. B) If I don't take pills for an x amount of time, I'll know - and I'll be able to see it for myself. With an IUD, if it's placed incorectly, slips out or something I have no way of truly knowing. If the slip will be unfeelable during penetration, then I might be going into baby town.
This turned into a bigger rant but I am overwhelmed with feelings and need someone to validate my decision or just give me a pat on the back lmao T_T

You definitely should feel empowered to tell your gyno that the monthly prescription isn’t working for you and you want to review options for long acting reversible contraception (LARC) methods. IUD isn’t the only LARC option. It’s your providers job to help you review all of your options. I would say that if the IUD shifting gives you anxiety, you could consider either the shot or an implant. Sadly there’s downsides to all of the options :/

Downsides are inevitable, just like no protection is ever 100% sure. I honestly just want to feel a bit at peace of mind ^^" Thank you very much for the advice! When I'll be picking up my next persciption I'll bring it up! I'll do some of my own research as well x) Have a great day!

personally - I was on the pills for so many years when I was younger (came off it just before 18) for other reasons but tbh I way prefer being on the iud. I can be painful to get in but I've had no bad experinces with it so far - the pills gave me migraines this doesn't

i love my IUD! my cycle on it was pretty long and irregular for a while, but now i don't have a period at all. also, if the IUD falls out (or in, xod forbid), you'll be able to tell. the IUD has these little string things that come out of your cervix, so you can stick a finger up there and feel around for them if you're nervous, lol.

I have a hormonal IUD. I'm actually on my second one. I have not had a period since 2017. Of course this is my personal experience and everyone is different. But I would definitely do it again.

IUD all the way. The insertion was p painful but I’d go thru it all again (and am going to even after my tubal ligation) just for the effectiveness piece of mind, having it inserted and not having to think about remembering to refill or take pills, and not having my period while it’s in

as a person who has never used a hormonal contraceptive and it's adamant on keeping it that way, does anyone have experience using a copper IUD? is it possible to ask for any anaesthetic method at insertion? I've never had a painful period past the first day and I would say I'm pretty regular, so I don't want to mess up with my hormones too much.

so a copper iud can make your periods way worse. they can give you anaesthetic, and if they refuse see someone else (they're actually trying to make offering anaesthetic for the procedure required by law here).
