I think its better as a student to use public transportation, money wise and you learn the city easier (in case is a new city)

it was cheaper for me to live off-campus in comparison to what i had been paying for room and board on campus (plus required meal plan) as rent went down because of the pandemic when i signed my lease in fall 2020. unfortunately the tradeoff is that it takes me half an hour to 45 minutes to get to my classes as opposed to ten :-( i have to wake up at 7 for my 9 am this term.
i've been here for a couple years now, so i believe i know most of the city layout pretty well (although i do rely on google maps sometimes just to be safer when driving). downtown is rather small and the city is basically in the middle of nowhere once you move out from a couple outlying areas haha
i'm a classics major (the major title is specifically classics and ancient mediterranean studies). most of my focus is on ancient cultures! my major looks at things primarily from rome, greece, ancient egypt, and ancient mesopotamia. i'm taking some interesting related art history classes too, and i'm on track for a minor in that. i'd love to have more of an ancient language focus but that's for next year when i'll have the prerequisites for most 400 level courses (the harder courses for primarily upperclassmen). i'll have the option to take ancient akkadian and egyptian hieroglyphics courses this upcoming school year which i'm so excited about! i'd like to take ancient greek, but it's incredibly difficult so i'm working on latin first. i want to learn everything i can. it's definitely a bit of a niche major, but i really love it and i've enjoyed every single course i've taken related to my major. i could have done study abroad in rome last semester, but i thought it was a bad idea due to covid. currently i'm looking to hopefully get an internship at a museum soon and maybe do tour guiding! i wanna share my love for this stuff with other people. on a similar note, would like to note that i don't support the practices of the british museum - the majority of its displayed work has been gained through stealing under imperialism and they are refusing to return artifacts back to their places of origin. that is not the kind of work i want to pursue.
