Totally agree with you Tibby. I have noticed the shift in what is desirable with collectors.

I used to work at a thrift store and the value of a lot of things 2nd hand have gone down just with the increase of people who sell their stuff online. You see so many more advertisements for apps nowadays that are literally just "sell your stuff" - and you have to low-ball if you want someone to buy from you opposed to some other guy selling the same thing. Books are incredibly affected by this I guess just because nobody likes to read anymore. When we sold clothes, they would typically be 1/3 of the price. 30USD shirt, 9.99 for the store. Books, however, were 1.99 no matter the book with the only exceptions being "really good cookbook or book that's super special and going for more", but the way we got the value for most of these things was by seeing what other people were selling them for, including people online who don't know the actual value. That makes us undervalue things and that makes more people think "oh, so this thing is about this much money", cycle continues.
Anyways sorry for butting In

you didnt butt in! this forum is for brain dumping mostly... and yeah, its supply and demand! when theres a lot of something prices are just going to be weird. Although thrift stores pricing has been on the rise for me personally, I live in America, and a big city,  and so the economy is kinda just a shit show.

Prices are likely on the rise because your thrift store has a quota of an average price to hit. I live in a really small and poor city, but because the business mainly operates from a significantly larger nearby city, they set the quota for all the stores. Our quota was so high we had to put things out for prices we felt uncomfortable with, throw away things that would drag our average down, and bundle stuff together so you had to buy the whole "set" and not just one thing and we still rarely ever met our quota AND everyone in the town hated us because of how high our prices were

(that being said, books, even books that said something like $31.99 on the cover, had to be put out for 1.99... 2.99 at the very most.)

You've made good points, I guess us oldies value stuff higher as we hold on to stuff for long periods of time and assume well that's going to go up in value as they don't make it any more or they don't print it any more or it's been signed by someone famous. Then even if it is signed by someone famous they might go out of fashion and younger people won't even know who they are so the value plummets. I've got to down size as I can't take everything with me. Someone said I should get a storage container but they're expensive and I don't think I'd get the stuff out so what would the point be in keeping it all.
