What would a lock look like? Would we be able to read the thread, but not add to it? What's the point?

The same point I guess why documentaries are made about awful topics (like the holocaust or so). There is a lesson to be learned.

Sandi: Noted, which is why I made my opinion clear. It seems silly to me that mods were even put in place when they cant really do anything except delete posts.

A lock means the thread is still readable but can no longer be posted on. Also, I've seen on other forums locks that can be temporarily set when drama erupts, so a moderator can go in and clean up any threats/insults or basically temporarily cool things down to let tensions die off. It does serve a purpose rather than just outright deleting everything.

And mods do have things they can do, it's just small clean up work. For instance, there is quite a bit of spam or pointless threads that need cleaning, I occasionally fix up people's posts POSITIONING (not the wording/spelling but I will fix the quotation if it didn't end in the right spot - so it's more readable), move threads to more appropriate sections, delete double posts, etc. It's small, but it's not big things like locking threads - there isn't so much traffic on the forums here that it needs constant moderating.

...you go in and fix people's mistakes? holy shit thats super controlling LOL

deleting spam and doing actual quality control is one thing- and its very appreciated - but bad spelling and grammar (or just forgetting a quotation) isn't a requirement for the forums. I think a few weeks ago I remember seeing a topic that was edited because it wasn't capitalized properly or something like that? thats just crazy to me.

Edit: found the post, apparently the topic was in all caps and was changed. still super weird to me that someone would go in and change that.

I don't edit people's grammar/spelling errors/what they said etc. I'm talking about when their post gets caught into a previous quote that they are quoting .... because it just looks like they are repeating a quote. It's just a repositioning lmao. :)

The caps post that the individual posted was switched to non-caps but said the exact same thing. It was either delete the thread and warn the individual for yelling in all caps which is against the rules or modify the thread so it's just not in caps.

I'm just sayin.... thats very unprofessional! I've never in my life come across a forum that deliberately edits user's posts to fit their liking.

As I said the contents of someone's post, how they wrote it (spelling/grammar etc) I do not ever change. If someone posts in all caps and it is put into lowercase it isn't changing their statement it's simply changing it to a lowercase because it is against the forum rules.

If you think something is wrong with the current forum rules, or think the moderators are doing something unjust with their rights then I'd suggest using your voice to send a message to a higher authority to report it!

5. Do not post ALL IN CAPITALS since this is considered to be shouting and is not necessary.
