Why is voting on the election mandatory and why was there only one candidate?

An election like this occurs when none of the State Ministers "opt in" to run for PB. As for why the voting is mandatory, I'm not entirely sure, that might just be the way the code is set up. Iulja herself, or perhaps Kimsim, might be able to give a better answer than I can for that question.

So far as I'm aware, voting in PB or SM elections is always mandatory although, as Cum said, I'm not really sure why that is.

Personally to me (in theory, at least) it'd make more sense if we had the choice whether or not to vote, since that's how it works with elections IRL. The main reason that I can think of that they might have it set up so that it's mandatory here is probably more of a game mechanic issue rather than trying to make it more realistic.

If they made it optional to vote in those elections then it's possible that they wouldn't feel as though whoever did win the elections won fairly, as the votes were not counted from the entire Bimbolands community, but only whatever random number of players chose to vote in that particular election. And that number could be different in each election as well which...works fine IRL more so because most countries who use a democratic process to elect their officials have a large enough population that if some people don't vote it won't impact the overall election to the point of there being a possibility of a "no one wins" sort of scenario.

Because this is a website with a much smaller online community, I'd say that the mandatory vote is probably in place to avoid that sort of situation. Again, as Cum said, Iulja or Kimsim would probably be able to give a better answer to that question than either of us, simply because they might actually know the reason. I'm mostly just guessing that this is probably the most likely reason (at least, so far as I can see it).

Maybe I didnt understand the mechanic correctly, but from what I understood the elections are held for 1 day, so any bimbo that doesnt log on during that one day wont vote anyway. On the other hand personally I dont really see how forcing people into a choice is considered a fair win.

IRL voter turn out is also linked and used to analyze parties relationships with the people or system, and extremely low turn outs are usually indicative to either a flawed system or candidates.

It makes it seem even more weird to be forced into voting with only one candidate running, seems like a very pointless chore.

Please dont take this the wrong way, I have nothing against Iulja, just the systems seems really weird.

Thank you both very much for your time, and great detailed answers helping me with this.

No problem, hun. :)

And I do have to agree that it is kind of weird (&, as you said, in this case somewhat of a pointless chore when we all already know who our next Prime is going to be, regardless of if we vote for her or not).
I love being here, & I love the game, but there are definitely a lot of things around here that need to be fixed just so that they work properly or make more sense. The whole site's kind of one big work in progress & unfortunately fixing all the flaws & adding new content & editing things that are already there, etc..etc..etc...can really be a monumental task.

I'm just thankful that we have so many people willing to volunteer to work on this site for free (like Cum). And Team Bimbo (Kimsim, Sachem, & such) are the programmers, so many things have to go through them to get done &, as I said, unfortunately there is just a lot of work that needs doing. So, as far as the population of citizens here, like you & I, it just takes a lot of patience on our part & I always do my best to be understanding of it because I know that none of them have easy jobs & they put in a lot of work to make this site better & more enjoyable overall for everyone, Bimbo & Himbo alike. :)

I have no idea, why there's no skip option. Honestly, i've never thought about it. Good idea to suggest before next elections in April.

You're welcome, hun. :)
To be honest, this is only my second election day (my first was the last SM elections). So...second election day in general, but first election day for Prime. The SM election was quite confusing for me at first too. I ended up doing the same thing as you & starting a topic about it in my Town Hall. I'm glad that you felt comfortable enough to ask, most people around here are generally pretty nice. :)
