Had my fair share in wierd proposals, if that counts?
First the love of my life proposed, sort of at the wrong time (things weren't so great at that stage of our relationship). Said yes, but then a few months later we ended it. Got back together at a later stage, realising family pressured engagement being the next step and we just wanted to be together without the labels...
When I was still single (broken up from guy no 1, I met an older gentlemen about 10 years older. Everything was great, but honestly I was just having fun. Then I found what was clearly an engagement in his drawer, so I moved out the next day. We just wanted differ things.
Then sometime in between (LOL) I met someone passionate and very romantic, things were new for me with him. He was kinda a rebound, but I think I could have loved him with time. Things is when I heard guy no 1 wanted to see me,i broke up with him. As I was busy breaking the news, he pulled a ring from his pocket and got down on his knee.. I felt so bad for him, helped him up and told him to keep his proposal for the right girl. I never saw him again.
Weird stories I think, but my take on it anyway...

This is my first serious relationship. When I was young I was a bit of a dork and then I actually quit school at a young age and was into pretty demanding work (and still am) so just honestly have barely even dated. Met this guy a while back and he is patient with me...he understands where I am coming from, which is why such a sudden proposal really threw me off. I mean he gets me not being home basically at all and is in a position he can zoom out to wherever I am just to see me because he wants to and we can even coordinate some of our business travels...love being with him...awesome guy...hell I will say it, I love him. It is just hard because like I said I am pretty inexperienced in relationships.
I think I said no in a good way...but things are clearly not the same. He is obviously hurt and feeling a level of awkward...idunno. I hope we get back to where we were.

I was dating for few years with my boyfriend, when I noticed that he was preparing for proposal - I discovered he bought a diamond ring. And I was pretty shocked, cause I thought we were more like friends with benefits than a serious couple. I was sure that I should say 'no', however, when I saw him with this ring in front of me I made a short calculation: after 'no' he would never ever talk to me, after 'yes' I could always break the engagement if something would be wrong, I'd done it in my life before. Because saying 'no' for most of the guys means breaking up. No second chance. You can try to explain how good was your faith, but t's still about man's pride. I've just asked my husband if I'm right, and he agrees.

I just wanted to add that I realized a long time ago that commutation is everything. It's so important to make sure everyone is on the same page, so u have no complications or surprises. I think we just sometimes can't even admit things to ourselves, let alone our partners.
Getting married and having kids are seen as the natural next thing after engagement. And that scares the living crap out of me! I don't know why 100% yet, but my partner feels the same and we decided to just except each other the way we are and just BE.
I am a romantic, I do love the notion of being swept of my feet by the handsome Colgate smile boy next door - bit I'm also realistic about relationships failing and even the most adored couples have their issues.
To disect this topic, from the person asking the question I think it must be so nerve wrecking to gather the courage to ask the question. U must be pretty certain the girl would say yes, right?
I think it almost gets expected to say yes. No one wants to make a fool out of the person asking, but being honest and truthful to urself is more meaningful I would say.
