I think overpopulation doesn’t exist, if you ask me.

I’m a huge Gaga fan though!

happy holidays!! ive been trying to get my kids excited about alters and remembering our ancestors. hard to explain death to babies but we are making attempts here at the ana houshold. Hows everyone elses holiday going?

LOVE making altars for the holidays! Especially since Christmas is a day to be together it's nice to include those that can't be with us. Sometimes I think about just leaving the altar up from dia de los muertos but that feels like cheating....

I am so thankful for my lovely sweet neighbor! She brought me a bunch of tamales the other day literally a christmas miracle because I do not have hours to spend making them this year.

Hot Topica

I love hearing about other cultural traditions for the holidays! Media is often so eurocentric. So thanks for sharing Heartmarch!

The western world often paints death as this horrible scary thing when it doesn't need to be. I think making an altar to remember loved ones is a really beautiful thing.

The concept of altars is such a sweet idea to me~
Also I’ve always thought it was strange how western cultures treat death like a taboo, making it so the younger generations aren’t prepared for loss.
My great grandma died when she was 25 shortly after giving birth, I always want to remember her since her family erased nearly everything left of her because she gave birth out of wedlock, which meant there isn’t much left of her besides a few pictures and a newspaper clip of her winning a dance contest.

Speaking of altars, one of the movie scenes that scared me to death as a kid (and still does) was the one of Jason from Friday The 13th with an altar for his dead mother. Some things from childhood always stick with you!
