Some fun facts about us:
~We have over a thousand lakes. Many of them are man-made, and only 19 are natural lakes. A common thing you'll hear people say around any warm vacation is that they're "going up to the lake", no one ever says which one.
~ We tend to put "the" in front of store names. For example, going to the walmart.
~Nothern Indiana has more of a Michigan accent {Which is closer to what most people see as a typical midwestern accent}, while the further south you go the more people gain a Kentucky accent. You can always tell what area someone in Indiana grew up in based on their accent {though if you ask a lot of us, we'll tell you we don't have one}
~Gary Indiana was once known as the murder capital of the united states. We...Don't go to Gary.
~Though Gary was also where the members of the Jackson family {As in Micheal Jackson, Janet, the Jackson 5 ect} grew up
~Pork tenderloin is a bit of a specialty here {though I hate it personally}, the idea is to have a very big tenderloin as flat as possible. The funnier it looks on a bun, the better you're doing
~Basketball is a big deal here
~There is so little to do in some cities and towns here that Walmart is considered a good way to kill time. Sometimes, you'll even go there for a second date. Ask me how I know
~A more personal fact, my graduating class was the biggest my school had to date! We had one hundred and two whole students that went to school as a group from preschool to senior year in the same building. Thats right, my local school hosts from preschool to seniors all in the same building, and seniors get paired with a kindergarten buddy at the start of the school year. Its cute, but having to hunch in the kindergarten hallways if you're taller than 5'8 has to hurt the back a bit...
Indiana has a lot of charm to it, especially in its landscape and I wouldn't trade the food here for anything {Seriously, it shouldn't be so hard to find good ranch whenever I leave the state} but the jokes about it being boring aren't too far off. There's not much to do outside of the bigger cities, and we tend to be years behind on trends in most stores {though that's gotten better recently}

when i was a young child my mother told me to not go near the ponds in our neighborhood because there were alligators in them. we would bike past them and she would go DEAN DONT GO NEAR THE POND YOULL GET EATEN. (this was an everyday thing btw.) we would also bike past a swing that went into a river. i anted to go on it sooooooo bad and my mom kept saying it get eaten by an alligator or a crocodile perhaps if i did. we would go to the pool everyday but NOT on saturdays. on saturdays we went to the BEACH and would get ICE CREAM IN THE SUPERMAN FLAVOR. and we would look for shells.
