An omelette with onions, green pepper, mushroom, fresh basil, gruyère and tomato. It was very good!

I would have added crème fraîche, but it had gone bad in the refrigerator with a pink bacterium (Serratia spp.?). Can anyone tell me if this a pathogen? I hate to throw away food, but some things LOOK dangerous. I think my great-grandmother was smell blind as sometimes we would be served terrible musty tasting things at her house. She thought I was a picky eater and would tell us about the black market and smuggling Jewish people to Sweden during the war. She was a very frightening woman.

If it's the bacteria you mentioned Serratia marcescens then I would definitely get rid of the item as that bacteria can cause infections. Also if the container was sealed properly and somehow still managed to get bacteria then it might be time to do a thorough clean of your fridge cause it might be spores getting into your food. Otherwise, it might be just typical mold that grows on dairy products, but better to be on the safe side xD.

Thank-you Esuna. The container had been opened for several days, since I do not eat crème fraîche every day. But the refrigerator is mostly clean. Ish. Not up to adult standards, perhaps, but better than when I was living with other students.

Oh fridges and kitchen sinks are the worst for bacteria, even if people are fairly clean. Sometimes you just need to bleach them or used strong alcohol to disinfect. And living with students is the worst xD, every time people would leave food in the sink and then it'd get caught at the bottom drain -_- it would smell so bad. Ick!

@Pia Margrethe- Well, from what I learned in my Food Safety class, “When in doubt, throw it out!” As to what Esuna have said, yes it can cause infections. So might as well dispose of it for now. :)
