a lot of airlines have apps that can help you check in. or you go to the airport find the airline that you flying and go up to the workers and ask for help. look up on your ticket to see what baggage you are able to bring (in the small print) Get to the airport at least 60 min before your flight depending on which airport maybe even earlier. if you have any questions please ask. i will try and help you.

if you're nervous, maybe take meds before getting on the plane
i'm terrified of flying but that's what i've been offered and i heard it's a pretty good solution
also maybe don't bring liquids like lotion and shampoo count as well, so prep for that

i know liquids have to be a certain amount and go in a quart sized ziplock but does that go in my carry-on or in my suitcase? also do i need to take my nose ring out for the security?

Your nose ring is probs fine. If you check your bag with liquids you can take bigger bottles. The quart bag thing is just for carry ons. Do double bag anything in checked luggage, though, in case of leaks.
I would also get anti nausea meds--meclizine or something--and ginger candy to suck or gum to chew. The elevation changes can mess with your inner ear so chewing helps your ears pop and also helps w nausea. The elevation changes can also make your hands and feet swell, and sitting for a long time makes for blood clot risks so if you can get a pair of compression knee socks and gloves you'll feel better sooner when you get off the plane. I recommend dressing in layers so if the plane is super hot or cold you can get comfy, and bring headphones and music or an audiobook to distract yourself and keep people from talking to you lol. Also bring snacks that are nonperishable for long days because the hanger is real lol. Oh and put a change of clothes in your carry on in case your luggage gets lost because being stuck in dirty clothes for days suuuucks (especially if you spill coffee in your lap and have coffee smelling pants all weekend, ask me how I knowww lol).

I didn't know you could have electronics! That definitely helps a lot. I have to take Dramamine on long car trips for nausea so I'll make sure to take some before the flight too. It didn't occur to me that that could even be an issue. Honestly, the airplane itself isn't what's scary.... its the airport e_e

The toilet autoflushes on some planes. I wish someone had told me that before I almost had a heart attack when it happened.

fwiw, the first time flying alone can feel pretty scary, but after that it's pretty routine. a few tips ive scrounged up over the years:

-try to get to your gate about 30 minutes before boarding, if you can. it just helps mitigate a lot of anxiety. boarding tends to start about 30 minutes before scheduled departure. so just make it a goal to be at the gate an hour before takeoff!

-even when it's crowded, ive basically never had security take longer than half an hour. if you're really meticulous and anxious about schedules like i am, the rule i settled with is to get to the airport 2 hours before takeoff. the process of check-in, going through security, and getting to the gate probably wont ever take an hour-- but it never hurts to be safe. ive had some mishaps LOL

i cant personally speak to how much things like flying anxiety + the pressure stuff tends to bother other people as much, but trust me flying is more of a hassle and a pain in the ass than it is scary. after the first few times you dont really notice the pressure changes at all. like a few others said, gum or other things to chew on can mitigate that if youre nervous about ears popping!

remember u got this! and itll be simpler than u think. i was terrified my first time flying alone and it became a simple process faster than i expected.

If you have any mobility difficulties or disabilities including neurodiversity you can reserve airport assistance ahead if time including a wheelchair if you need it, and you can also usually get the option to board early so you legit have enough time to get onto the plane or get settled. I usually arrive 2 or 3 hours early because I have extra baggage for medical devices and meds and bc I move really slowly and want enough time to get through security, get to the gate, and pee or get a snack or water. Oh also in most places food and water is more expensive than it would be outside the airport for prepare for that but there should be free water fountains.

this is also a super good point. if youre a cane user i definitely recommend letting them know beforehand-- it might stop them from hassling you on the plane or telling you they need to take your cane for the duration of the flight. i wish i wasn't speaking from experience. i almost went completely ape on that flight attendant LOL
