jamie... muhammad ali jr saying that his father wouldnt have supported the BLM movement is irrelevant to the issue and has NOTHING to do with anything that this thread was trying to accomplish. i'm going to assume that you made that post because you hold the same views as him and were looking for a covert way to express them, in which case that's completely inappropriate given the context of this thread. this isn't a debate. it was meant to be a place to discuss current issues and raise awareness. and enough with the all lives matter rhetoric ffs i'm not even gonna go into all that because its 3am and i just dont have the energy rn.

i'd really appreciate if a FG took the post down so we can just move on please. it was completely irrelevant to the thread and made in poor taste, but knowing how the FGs on this site operate i highly doubt they will

anyways.. thanks to all of the other users who made very informative posts!! esp TaliaMar bringing light to how institutional racism affects black people in the UK too. i have some BLM donation/financial support links in my about me section incase anyone is interested.

For anyone interested, there's a twitter account that was created not too long ago that shares user stories of racism within the British education system (for anyone still doubting the prevalence of the issue in the UK). They are no longer accepting submissions, but there's some awful accounts of discrimination here (both from staff and students), so just wanted to give that warning.

Here's a list of UK and international petitions you can sign. These include Parliament Petitions for UK-only residents (since the HOC does not consider change.org petitions)! Also, email your MPs about issues you feel are relevant! It does make a difference!

Jamie Fae, I delete your post because it doesn't fit the topic of this thread. The reason why it was fixed in our forum is to show support and respect for the BLM movement and the POC community, not discuss if it's valid or not. There's a reason why people decide to face a pandemic in order to protest and this reason is the fact that they feel like the police violence is more dangerous than the virus. A very effective, yet dirty political practice is the use of a token, which means: someone who's part of a community that serves to justify the bias of the oppressive class.

Please, don't use the word of a single man to invalidate a movement that exists due to the hard work and struggle of many people. Racism exists and it kills. I would like to thanks all the other players who use this platform in order to do something good for the world, outside Bimboland. You're awesome guys! =D Let's keep this thread alive, ok?

also, just for posterity: what made you think it was appropriate to post it on this thread? what went through your mind that made you think something as disrespectful and tone-deaf as that was a good idea?

I’m sick of assholes shitting on causes because they don’t agree or like to dig deep to search out contradicting arguments.
How about having a little love in your heart and an ounce of compassion for those that feel slighted.  Some people just want to be heard, so show a little grace and listen.

And you wonder why people despise you. Makes me sick (Spits)

Everyone has probably watched it already but 13th on Netflix is probably the best way to get a concise understanding if you need help to learn more about the systemic nature of oppression and racism faced by the black community, obviously focused on America.

I’m taking time each day to sign petitions, read and educate myself, send letters to my MPs/MSPs (that’s what we call our politicians, I’m Scottish), and call out “casual” racism (I hate that phrase, when can racism ever be casual?????!!!!). I always considered myself an ally but recently I’ve questioned whether I’ve ever done enough. I’m a high school history teacher who teaches two units on slavery and the Civil Rights movement to my students. I have a duty to ensure a brighter tomorrow than our current today. I’m working to learn more about how to teach these topics justifiably, to learn more about the language I should use. I have really considered recently how privilege I am to be educating myself on these topics as opposed to experiencing them. Black lives matter and I will use my privilege as a white cis-woman until inequality is no longer entrenched in the system that provides me with it.
