I've chosen a wonderful woman from my hometown, Jerri (Geraldine) Lawhorn. She was the first deafblind African-American, and sixth deafblind person, to earn a college degree in the USA. She was an actress, writer, teacher, and pianist.

I Love Lucy is a very nostalgic show to me! I watched reruns with my mom after school they're very fond memories. Lucy and Desi also started Desilu productions which produced my favorite series Star Trek. She is an icon for the ages!

For this contest, I would like to present Eloína dos Leopardos. Born in 1945, she was a Brazilian actress and transvestite* who performed in theatre and starred in movies such as "De Vento em Popa" (1957) and "O Camelô da Rua Larga" (1958). To escape persecution during the military dictatorship, she went to France, where she would work at the Madame Arthur drag cabaret. The last part of her stage name comes from a stripease show she ran in the 1980s, called A Noite dos Leopardos. In 2016 she appeared in a documentary called Divine Divas.
Although this contest seems to be focused on acting, I've decided to recreate this photo of her strutting for the samba school, Beija-Flor in 1976, because the Carnival ended this week and it felt relevant.
Some sources claim she was the first drum section queen in Rio de Janeiro**, There is some controversy surrounding this issue, and I've found conflicting information regarding who actually took this role first.
Nonetheless, even if she wasn't the first drum section queen of all time, she was among them (as well as the first for Beija-Flor).
*: I have used this term while referring to her because this is how I've seen articles refer to her, and she herself used this term in an interview. If this is inappropriate, I will gladly change it, as I have no intention of causing offence with this entry.
** For anyone not familiar: A drum section queen's job involves presenting the samba school to the public, sorta like their face in the media. Nowadays, it's common for celebrities to be chosen for this position.

Norman McLaren (1914–1987) was a Scottish-Canadian animator, director, and filmmaker known for his innovative techniques in animation.
His most famous work, "Neighbours" (1952), earned an Oscar, and is celebrated for its groundbreaking use of pixilation (stop-motion involving live actors).
He experimented with various animation techniques, including hand-drawn
animation, stop-motion, and direct manipulation of film stock. He would
literally draw sound directly onto film, creating some of the first instances of
synchronizing animation with music.
This is shown in my personal favourite work, "Dots" (1940). This piece inspired the background of my outfit here.
