☾ Culture sharing contest: Folklore and mythology ☽

Hope everyone is doing alright and ready for my contest!
As you know, I wanted us to know each other a little bit better and share our culture, with part III of the contest ♡
First part was all about food, second was all about music, and third is about folklore and mythology!

Since I am Romanian I went with the most obvious one, the vampire.
For us it's called 'strigoi' and it's a troubled spirit, raised from it's grave. It feeds with the blood of their victims, has the powers to transform in an animal and become invisible. The originality came from striga, which it's common folklore in the Slavic countries.
I decided to interpret it like a classical Hollywood vampire, but with Romanian touches, like the clothes and obviously Dracula's Castle behind.
As a fun fact, 'Dracula' who originates from Vlad Tepes (Vlad Dracul) never lived in the Bran Castle, and never drank blood, but he has a peculiar way to punish his enemies, by staking them.

Contest starts today and ends on 30 September midnight~

Screenshots are not allowed! (use only *insert current outfit*)

Prizes and total number of winners will remain in my discretion.

All states are welcome to participate since we are sharing culture from all over the world! <3

Remember, always have fun !

Smooches, L ❤

I chose to do a creature from Italian folklore called the Babau, they come from a lot of folklore but with different names, it's basically the Italian Boogeyman! When personified they look like a tall man wearing a heavy black coat, with a black hood or hat which hides his face. But usually, they are generally identified as a terrifying monster without a defined shape or particular look! Which i love <3 In the Italian dub of Nightmare Before Christmas, Oogie Boogie is referred to as Babau! (fun fact, my dad lived in Canada his whole life, but only spoke Italian untill he was 10!) ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ Ti amo tanto!

A Valkyrie or Valkyrja is a figure in Norse mythology who decides the fate of warriors in battle and carries the dead to Odin’s Valhalla.
The Valkyries are typically depicted as fearsome but beautiful warrior women. They fly above the battlefield and swoop down to choose the bravest, most noble warriors at the moment of death. These chosen fighters are then taken to Valhalla, the paradise of those who died in battle, where they will fight and feast until Ragnarok.

In my city in Mexico there's a legend about a mannequin in a bridal shop called "La Popular", as the legend goes, many people in Chihuahua began to believe that La Pascualita was not a mannequin at all but rather the embalmed corpse of the previous owner's daughter, Pascuala Esparza. According to the story, Pascuala had died tragically on her wedding day from a spider bite, and her grief-stricken mother, who owned the bridal shop, decided to preserve her daughter's body by embalming it and placing it in the store as a tribute. Many people believe that Pascualita comes alive at night and roams the streets of downtown Chihuahua.

The Green Man is primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of new growth that occurs every spring.

"Green Man" type foliate heads first appeared in England during the early 12th century deriving from those of France, and were especially popular in the Gothic architecture of the 13th to 15th centuries. The idea that the Green Man motif represents a pagan mythological figure is not always supported although many believe this is the case.

A "Xana" is a legendary creature from Northern Spanish mythology. It's typically described as a fairy-like being associated with beauty and nature. Xanas are believed to inhabit natural places such as rivers, forests, and caves. They are often depicted as enchanting and mysterious creatures connected to the natural world.

I decided to do a selkie, a beautiful creature from Scottish folklore! They are seals that can take their skin off like a coat to walk as people on land. Many unfortunate tales see their coats stolen by human lovers who want to keep them for themselves. I've always loved this myth so this contest is super fun :D

The Banshee from Irish mythology is said to be a female shape-shifting spirit who can take several forms, from a wizened old woman to a beautiful girl.  Some traditions say that each Irish family has its own Banshee.  She is often feared, because if she is angered by the family, she will let out a blood-curdling scream as an omen of an impending death in the family.  As such, she is often feared as a harbinger of death.  However, the Banshee is not evil.  If she loves the family, she will sing a low, sad, beautiful song to mourn the passing of someone in the family, or she will let loose her wild cry as a warning of danger: that death COULD be imminent if a family member is in a dangerous situation.  But like so many Irish legends, there is no standard description of the Banshee, or what she does and doesn't do; again some fear the Banshee, and some love the Banshee.  Great idea for a contest!
