So I saw a really interesting video.... (i'll find it again at some point and post it). Anyhow... it was simply a question... If you could change any one thing about yourself what would you change.... It was really interesting to see some of the things people said, depending on age.. So.... I kinda want to see how people here think about themselves...

So ladies and gentleman.... 2 questions for you...

What age group do you fall in:

10-20,

 21-30,

 31-40,

41+

And if you could change any one thing about yourself... what would you change?

This is a difficult question for someone who is so judgmental about themselves.  Which 'one' flaw to change would be impossible to chose.
When I began to think about this personal flaw, I realized that my extreme judgement doesn't just stop when I look in a mirror.  I'm always looking for things to fix, never thinking that it is my problem that I see so many problems in the World.

Now that I am retired, I find that I am needing to re-train myself, to enjoy the beauty in the world without getting upset if I see some mud across my path, or in my way.  I totally hate seeing people behave poorly, but they are all around in public places and it has been very difficult for me to not think or say, what disgusting people they are.  I try to just imagine them as oversize children picking their noses, and it does make me laugh enough to just turn away from and shake my head, knowing that it really doesn't mean a thing to me anymore. The social decay I see in America right now is beyond my control, and I have no need to retain my judgmental attitude's to become successful and wealthy.  It is my 'flaw' that is no longer needed and makes me sad to have today, but it once was very important early on in my working life.  It was a survival skill I had to have while making money from some very shady and often unpredictable people.

This is an opinion of a 45 year old woman, about herself.

I'm 21,

I would change my chest or my voice - which is at least something I should be able to do in the next 5 years!

30 here.

I really wish I was more confident. I know I have good insight and ideas I just have trouble voicing them and being sure of myself when I do, although I've gotten a lot better, I still get tripped up sometimes. I've been told my humility works both for me and against me.

The opening poster is very correct in how age and sex is a factor of self-perception.  I don't know about her point of view yet because she has only asked the question, however I think she may have noticed something in the video, that I had to learn day by day over 40 years.  Peoples priorities change with age.
What if I went through all my changes I had to make to myself at say 5 year intervals and wrote them down.  At 16 I was exactly like Nia, Except at that time I had to also run-away from home and only acted to be confidant.  I really wasn't, I was always worried but luck was on my side.  I eventually met my husband and he changed me so much with love and respect.
From that point on, my life path took an uncommon turn.  I was swept along in an uncertain world and did my best to keep my head above the flood of cultural political correctness that has lead to the social problems we see today in race relations,  illegal/legal immigration, and a totally dysfunctional government that couldn't even tie a shoe without debating about it for years.   I was trapped in the middle, because of my race being white, in an industry that was mostly black artists.  I got a free pass because white women are very desired in that culture.  I got an education you can't pay for in collage, with this experience.  First hand, I got to walk in another persons shoes.  I saw real racism up close and personal and it does cut both ways.. My employer was a really good man to me, and I loved him for his acceptance of me as I was, in his world but I can't say the same for all of his haters. Both black and white found reasons to hate us when he would simply be my date.  It was a job for me to be 'eye-candy', and nothing more but it opened my eyes to a side of humanity that is totally shameful.  He earned the right to escort me, and that didn't set well with his competition. As an actress, racism has touched me personally because it was never my goal to take a stand and change the world.  I just liked his offer of a job and rolled with the punches.

This news story caught my eye, because Germany has discovered that allowing free access to the country by men who have never been exposed to "free and equal" women can have such very dramatic effect on the society.  Their answer is cartoons, in public swimming pools.  OK, if you really think a sign on the wall will make men behave,  What would be the personal flaw those men would change?  If they even could.  A lifetime of men being taught religiously that women are property and a sex-slave to a husband is never going to be changed with cartoons no matter how politically correct the idea may be.  Would you willingly invite a known sexual predator to live in your home?  Germany did, and now they are trying to figure out where they went wrong and fix it.  Cartoons is the first attempt .  LOLROF

I don't think that those men even give a seconds thought to the flaws they may have.  In fact if they behaved the same in the country they just left,  they would lose an arm or hand to amputation instead of being forced to ignore a cartoon on a wall in a German swimming pool.  They are not even able to behave for personal religious reasons around women.  I loved this quote from the story:
Muslim imam, Sami Abu-Yusuf, said in defense:  __ women were to blame because they “dress half naked and wear perfume.”

Think about it.   What should Sami ABU Yusuf change about himself? (in a politically correct world)  His statement only implies to me, that it is only the native women who must change to suit his religious needs for sexual slavery of all women, because to him it is the word of God as written in the Koran.  I would welcome his return to the nation he fled from.  At least there he could oppress all the women he wants and be happy and religious and meet his God in a perfect world at the hands of his own people.

Having many years to learn how the world really works, allows me to see all the double standards people use to justify and excuse anti-social behavior that they engage in.  Everyone has become a victim of perception and that starts in childhood, being taught the perceptions of the parents.  It only took 16 years of my life to escape my Nazi educated father( forced Hitler- youth program).   I can't change that,  but I could change myself to reject hate to the point I will have nothing to do with my own family.  Oh, and I did that around age 17 and never looked back.  Soon enough, my fathers education will be dead and it still wont be soon enough to save me from the pain he caused. He ruined a perfectly healthy baby girl by his very existence and superiority complex.  I was the baby that should have been exterminated. What a wonderful thing to say to an 8 year old girl after she trips and falls into a flower bed in a park.  A happy childhood, I never could have because I was the product of sin in the eyes of an adult man who was my uncle first and 6 months later my father.    I reserve hate for those who deserve it.  God can send me to Hell for it, if he wishes but some things a father will do to a baby is worse.
I cannot forgive him as hard as I try.  He murdered my soul every day, till I escaped. Only then could I even start to mature into a woman. I seriously cannot think of a single instance when I had a fun day as a child at home or on holiday, or anytime that man was close by.  My father made sure to make me cry every day. My mother just watched and would get beaten if she said stop.  He even used to kill my pets, just to terrorize me into being his model for a camera.  I stopped even trying to love animals when I was a child, to save them from my father.  It took a lot of personal change to recover from my childhood.  I learned how to survive in the mountains, alone and grew very strong learning to be totally independent with my own skills.  It was all I had to work with. I started my life by climbing trees for safety. Poor little rich girl...  haha I don't think so, but it might define my sister who must still suck on his wallet because she couldn't stop taking her fathers bribes.  Of course it is different.  He never abused her and she will never be more than a High-school cheer-leading coach at 44 years old.  Ehhh.   I'm good with that.  Revenge is sweet when Karma eats your foes for you.

I'm 23.

I've recently reconnected with someone whose feelings I hurt a couple of years back. We occasionally talk, but it's never going to be the same. Sometimes I do wish I could take it all back. I can't say I wish I'd given our relationship a proper shot: It could've been the best thing that ever happened to me, but equally it could've been awful. When you make your bed, you kind of just have to lie in it I guess. Maybe we'll be friends again someday, I'd like that. It's sad to lose someone who you felt really added something special to your life.

Losing touch with friends seems like a really common theme in my twenties - I've heard older people say this happens.

This is the video that inspired me to post and ask the question (http://youtu.be/f0tEcxLDDd4):

Initially when I saw the question my thought was I would change my gut. No matter how much I work out, I can't seem to rid myself of my gut. Weight is something I personally have struggled with all my life.  At 17 I was 250lbs and at 24 I got down to about 150 but at 33 I'm about 180 again and its been a constant struggle regardless of how active I am and how conscious of diet I am.  When I was young it never really bothered me, and then it did and then it didn't and for the most part I'm happy with my looks because I know I have a good heart and I'm kind and honest. I just feel like a lot of the time we are judged by our appearance....

After I watched the video, it got me thinking about what matters and what doesn't and why... Its interesting to see how perceptions change.... I mean.... even at 33 I can see the awesomeness in having a mermaid tail ;)

I am 23, and if I could change something about myself, it would have to be my illness. I would wish that I didn't have type 1 diabetes. I hate constantly having to prick my fingers, ingesting copious amounts of medication, and paying extreme care to what I eat. I haven't had a piece of bread in I don't know how long. I wasn't even able to have a piece of cake or anything sweet for my birthday a last week.
