I want to make this thread as an awareness cause. I have seen many times in the forums where somebody says something that might come off as rude or bigoted, but in reality the person simply didn't know better.
It is okay to be corrected (if its done nicely at least). We should all learn to be okay with changing our ways of speaking or acting in order to be considerate to others. Everybody learns at some point, and nobody should be expected to know everything all the time.
So, whenever you see something come up in the forums or even in daily life where someone might be ignorant to something, this is a place to kindly bring awareness to it after they have been privately corrected and preferably a while after the situation is resolved. You may also link a person to a page of this thread where something they are ignorant of has been previously discussed. To be clear, this is in no way a callout thread. That should not be tolerated.
You can also use this thread to respectfully ask questions about things you are unsure about when it comes to social grace and identity!
Again, this thread is NOT for calling people out, starting fights, having debates, or claiming bigotry. Here are the rules I am putting in place for this thread:
♡ No mentioning people by name unless they have given their permission.
♡ No accusatory or aggressive language/behavior. That way we can keep this a respectful learning forum.
♡ No judgment of people who were previously unaware of something.
♡ No debating. That is not what this thread is for.
♡ No ranting. If someone was bigoted to you at the mall, you may post here to bring awareness to it but don't just vent about how evil people are.
♡ No clowning. Don't put stupid stuff here in an attempt to be funny or sassy. Don't pretend to be ignorant to something. Please be real.
♡ Cite sources when possible, or refer to someone who is a part of the population you are defending.
Any breaking of these rules will result in the attention of Fashion Police! If you have ideas on how to improve this thread, let me know.
My first example is the usage of "g-d". I admit that I am not knowledgeable as I could be on this (so I encourage someone who knows more than me to educate us), but this is something used by Jewish people. I have seen many people on this website use this legitimately (e.g. "oh my g-d"), and I have also seen people making fun of it. After speaking privately with that person, they admitted that they were unaware of this and assured me they would stop. And they did! It's as easy as that!
