Okay side tangent bc one of the songs came on but I would really recommend kpop demon hunters (movie on netflix) for anyone thinking about watching it. The soundtrack is genuinely so good and the animation is beautiful and the story is so good.

The animation looks great, and because it's a more independent movie I've been able to find a lot of the concept art and storyboards online, which is always so cool to see. Honestly, I feel like it's been a pretty good year for movies so far. I LOVED sinners, which came out this year too, and I'm not normally a horror girl! Also I'm just really happy NEW stories are being made, all the live action remakes were getting annoying.

OH YES YES SINNERS God that movie was so good, the scene where Sammy's music summons the past and future was so beautiful, and 'Pale, pale moon' was maybe my favorite song off the soundtrack. I read a lot of other peoples analysis about the movie and certain scenes and its genuinely so. AAA!! Agreed about the original movie bit too, I am so so tired of crap remakes, and sequels, and reboots.

I STILL LISTEN TO THE SOUNDTRACK pale moon was AMAZING in theaters but i listen to Last Time (I Seen The Sun) all the time.
i LOVED KPOP DEMON HUNTERS AHGHGHGHG. i'm not even a fan of current kpop groups but it was sooo sweet to see so much of the kpop fandom culture represented in it. i cried a lot and it was literally just the mix of nostalgia and the "holy shit, its so great when so many people get together just because they love something" feeling. the songs surprised me not just with their catchiness but how emotional they made me, too. the lin manuel miranda epidemic in disney movies has made me mostly cringe at the lyrics, and it doesnt help when every character is designed and animated the same.
but owhh the final song dude.... it doesnt help that me and my irl besties are a trio, too. i sort of wish i watched the movie with them to make me cry even harder.
ANYWAYS. my expectations were super low because of its name but it was a lovely surprise and i agree its nice to see a new, fresh story being told and having such success. afaik the producers(?) didnt have much hopes for it so they didnt do a theatrical release- this definitely relates to the never ending wave of remakes and reboots and unwanted sequels. i hope the messages gets across and studios start betting on their original stories again.
