Oh my god someone understands!!! My school is in a hipster-heavy area so it’s very common and every single class I’m in has us put pronouns in our zoom names so every mf day I lie for 3 different classes

Exactly! My best friend is an enby and they’re out and sure of their pronouns so for them it’s awesome, but I’m not and it sucks! I feel like I’m gagging every time I say mine bc I know it isn’t true, but I know I can’t use the pronouns I wanna try bc no one will get them

in some dressup games, people say you should not choose a black skin if you are not black? i do not understand why... sometimes i love to use black skins and dress up nicely and all, and people say it is wrong and sometimes even racist... :/ why tho? like what makes it so wrong?
if it is really wrong i would stop using them but for now i do not see anything wrong with it

idk honestly, i have done outfits in all different skin colors and i just think of it like making character designs i guess? i like making ocs and drawing them and coming up with stories/personalities for them and in my mind its the same when making outfits in games. the characters i dress up arent supposed to represent me (unless i specifically state so) maybe it would be helpful if people did that if they also stated theyre white/black/ect? shrug idk

im trying to not be oblivious or ignorant btw, this is honestly the first ive heard of this

I've also heard this criticism/guidance about cross-racial game play. My understanding is that there's a few things going on, at least in countries that are majority people of European descent with a history of colonization or enslaving Africans and people of African or Indigenous ancestry. One is cultural appropriation, playing with Blackness or with dark skin divorced from the power dynamics and daily racism that people of color face both individually and in terms of entire colonized cultures, and one is blackface--in this case digital blackface. It comes down to using the bodies, the likenesses, the images of people of color and especially Black people for fun, without either understanding the nuance of the experience of racism or the nuances of what might be racist in your representation of the character. And also--white folks/people of European descent appropriating elements of Black culture or other POC cultures, to make money and get attention or likes or whatever, that's a huge problem that's been going on for decades and centuries, and keeps shutting people of color out of those opportunities for respect and money and a platform. Here, it's gonna be, like, outfit fights, outfit contests, overall popularity, right? And like it's a little  more complicated when it's character design, since white creators NOT creating characters of color is a problem, but like a bigger problem is white comics/animation/etc creators not hiring people of color in the writers rooms and voice cast. So it's complicated, like most things that are about racism. But here, here's some extra context:
An article about digital blackface--
and an article about digital blackface on tiktok--
An article from a show called Code Switch which is a really good radio show about all issues race and racism in the US:
