If you read the survey results I posted recently, you’d know that I promised new forum topics to encourage forum engagement. Hopefully a pop-up for something that isn't contest related isn't too annoying haha.  Our first topic is: Nostalgia! I’ve always been really fascinated with nostalgia, and more specifically how companies have noticed people’s yearning for nostalgic things and found ways to capitalize on it. Like reboots and remakes and relaunches of classic media from our childhoods.

Here’s my question to you: How do you feel about nostalgia? Do you enjoy nostalgic remakes? What makes you feel nostalgic?

My thoughts on nostalgia: My peak nostalgia years are like 2005-2015 ish. Nostalgia just makes me sad and weird tbh!!  But I've always loved seeing nostalgia posts on social media, from Pinterest when I was like 13 and from TikTok right now.  I was born in 2001, so I have a weird mix of nostalgia from both millennial and gen-z nostalgia posts.  I’ve also noticed that nostalgia posts from millennials (90s ish) and gen-z (2000s ish) are a lot different. Like the 90s posts are like “90s toys/shows were the best! Remember this super cool thing? Kids these days will never get to experience this!” and gen-z nostalgia is like, “god I wish I could go back. I’ll never be as happy as I was back then.” LMAO and sort of liminal space-esque if that makes any sense.  I also have noticed that a lot of companies are catching on to the 80s and 90s nostalgia, for better or for worse, but I haven't really noticed any 2000s nostalgia from big toy lines/movies/shows. Probably too recent for that yet haha.  But that's just my 2 cents and i'd love to know what you guys think!!

omg hi atheista homies, ximboglizzy popping by for a quick visit from secville!! I couldn't pass off this topic!!!

I love nostalgia, as of recently I've been listening to a lot of early 2000s radio music cause nowadays, yes theres so many good songs coming out but its just not.. the same.. like theres a certain aspect to early 2000s songs that songs nowadays dont have. I feel like the same could be applied with fashion trends too.

I love the early 2000s scene queen RAWR >w< aesthetic, I wanted the whole racoon tail, hair swooped to the side look so bad but my mom would never allow me to dye my hair as a kid and quite frankly she hated the whole swoop to the side, hair down look lol but I like to think once I move out I can live my best life by unleashing my inner beast with fashion, you know? also cuz if I'd move out it means im making enough money to sustain myself soooooo

YEEHAW that's my 5 cents- love nostalgia!

*btw WOOOHOOO 01' GANG! me as well!!*

nostalgia is fun! ive been trying to get back into things i liked when i was little so old cartoon network shows, early 2010's music and skit-comedy for lack of a better term. to be more specific ive been re-watching Flapjack and Chowder (two old cartoons i loved). I started listening to Taylor Swift again, for years i was trying to be rlly cool and different but im over that now and i LOVE Taylor Swift, by fav album is 1989! I also LOVE Lorde, Rihanna & Lady Gaga. when i said skit-comedy i ment shows like Saturday Night Live, for some fucking reason i loved that show when i was a kid and it holds so much nostalgia for me, I also watched Between Two Ferns all the time.

also idk if this is just a canadian thing but does anyone remember the show 6teen? it was a cartoon abt teenagers, they were always in a mall and one worked at a lemonade stand. I liked it but my mom would never let me watch it lmaoo

Love this topic!
I am definitely a nostalgic b3ach heheh
When I was born in 97 my brother had already 7y, so I grown up with a male who always love the stuffs that he loves. And he was a such an Otaku Nerd, always watching some shows from the 80's at
the TV, I've grown up watching Saint Seiya, Sakura CardCaptor, Digimon, yu yu Hakusho, and the love of his entire world when he was a child, Pokémon. He would collect the cards to play with me. And all those memories are so magic... so pure. The life was so easy.
For his nostalgic I grown up being a Nostalgic. Love all the shows that I watching, playing with my barbie dolls.
For that I've become an adult that dies for a Nostalgic moment. Last Sunday I've gone to the movie theater watch Wonka with my mom and my mom in law. Was so cute seeing their reaction to something they grow with.
But honestly since I'm so in to these, I hate when some bad remakes happen, like when they change the care bears, I remember the frustrationI have.

Music does make us pretty nostalgic.. we can go back in time just listening then. I was an emo/kpopper when I was at my 12/17. I would put my eyeliner and my weird color lipstick to go to the school and my oversized jacket. While I've learn some of the dance moves in a kpop music video. I think some of the dances I still remember these days.

And yes Yaza I reme 6teen here in Brazil a lot of the emokids love that show, i remeber an online game basedon then that Iprobably have playedmore than i've should hahaha.

6Teen was one of my favorite shows, I can't believe my mom let me watch it. Same with Total Drama Island. She was okay with those, but not Ed, Edd, and Eddy

I remember being like thirteen too and suddenly feeling really nostalgic for the Powerpuff girls. Its really funny looking back on it because at thirteen I was still a kid, and it had only been like five years since I was sitting and watching it on Cartoon Network anyways.

I don't really like nostalgia because I had a crappy childhood so I'm all about the present and future, much happier times!

I was born in the early 90s and I do think modern toys and games are maybe missing a certain charm they used to have? I have a soft spot for claymation and puppets and it seems they're less common these days because it's time consuming and expensive now animation has come so far.

Did you guys have those little toy aliens in the plastic eggs growing up? Everybody swore if you put them back to back and stuck them in the fridge they'd have a baby and everybody totally knew somebody who knew somebody who it actually worked for. (It never did LOL).

I remember buying one and being annoyed it was a boy (why did they put genitals on the jelly aliens guys? LOL) so I "fixed" it with scissors T_T

i love thinking about whats nostalgic for me. its addictive tbh.. the first thing that come to mind is my old iPod touch. it was gen 2 and had the old wide apple charger. i had a hot pink case and my camera roll was basically entirely bad anime and fanart screenshots. i have no idea how popular it was in other places but when i was in second grade everyone suddenly was obsessed with hand sanitizer? putting them in little decorative silicone keychains, trading them, etc. they all smelled so bad and artificial and were full of glitter it was terrible.

ALSO THOSE DINOSAURS.. the ones that you buy as an egg and keep in water until it hatches?? then it grows in the water and take it out and its all slimy and has such a specific smell and its basically garbage by the time it stops growing. i loved gen3 of my little pony, too. i started watching it after the first season or two of gen4 came out but the cable we had was no good so i always stuck to dvds. THOSE DVD STORAGE BOOKS.. if you know, you know. the plastic sleeves on those tore so quickly, too.

nostalgia is very interesting to me, because i think i feel the most nostalgia for things companies cant sell me, like playing outside all day in my grandma's very wild garden, scootering around and around the cul de sac with my little brother, getting home from school and nobody is home and reading books until i fall asleep on the couch and wake up to my parents coming home from work and filling the house with love and light... sobs ToT

and then the next big thing i have nostalgia for is something companies can probably give me but for some reason it's just not the same and never will be! i miss myspace! the little apps like for music or dress up emo avatars you could put on your page! the excitement of meeting other tweens throughout the city! why was it sooo fun to be on the computer back then and its just so much less fun now???

anyways, i do sometimes watch nostalgia content, i really like videos breaking down the actual fashion from the early, mid, and late 2000s because a lot of people remember it wrong lol and i love the cringe/nostalgia i feel when i see someone do it right in all its disgusting glory.

i also have A Ton of nostalgia for old amvs and other aspects of my early internet experience. there was nothing more fun than playing mmos like mabinogi back in the day, nothing more fun than neopets, nothing more fun than tinierme! and all of these are just experiences that even if the games still exist, like mabinogi and neopets, the newness and excitement and community is irreplicable...

anyways, nostalgia cash grabs based on like franchises and reboots really bring that home for me, nothing will ever capture that shiny new excited for life feeling that nostalgia is remembering, and they end up just annoying me
