The door shook in its frame with the repeated hammering.
It would not hold much longer and they were quickly running out of time. The thief furiously stuffed one last fistful of bills into their lapel and slipped out of the window. Only to fall directly into the rose garden outside, thorns grasping onto their thin jacket.
From above, the sound of the door splintering, followed by a figure at the window frame. Writhing inelegantly, the thief attempted in vain to free themselves - above them the figure spoke: "Little bunny caught in the brambles, eh? Looks like the mistress will be having rabbit stew tonight!"
"Ack! Ouch - get off - okay - oof..." the thief swatted ineffectively at their persecutor's heavy boot and wheezed, "Just take me to her!"
"Of course, you will get to meet milady as soon she returns from the Count's dinner party - but what shall I do with you in the meantime?" the tall man contemplated to himself.
