Friendly discussions here pls, I genuinely want to know why people are pro-life :)

I'm pro-choice, I think women should be able to do what they want with their bodies, they should be in charge of themselves.
Abortion isn't killing babies, they are clumps of cells that aren't developed and don't even know they exist.

Pro-choice people and Pro-Life people please feel free to add on or share!! :)

I personally don't care

but abortion is important and if you don't support it but you support rape and incest your disgusting. Also as a black woman irl without abortion we are more likely to die giving birth in the hospital because the medical industry is racially biased af

Okay, folks, I think that we're walking on the ice here. Let's keep the tone friendly. I'm pretty assured that no one support rape and incest. For myself, I'm pro-choice but it doesn't mean that everyone's who's pro-life supports those two things. It's good when people are able to talk about serious stuff, but if people get too wild here we will be forced to close the thread and it will be a loss.

Pro-Choice.
Women should be able to do what they wish with their bodies. What they do with their life has nothing to do with you or yours. You literally never know someone's full situation. Abortion isn't killing a baby, it's a clump of cells.
No one should be forced to have a baby. The woman could die, maybe can't afford kids, maybe she was raped, maybe it was incest, maybe doesn't want kids, etc. Forcing that person into having kids will most likely have adverse effects on the child's life that will impact them greatly.

There are plenty of kids in foster care and waiting to be adopted. Sadly it's pretty overbooked, things aren't taken care of properly. If you truly care about the child's life go adopt some yourself, donate to foster homes, charities etc.

One thing that I'm pretty sure about is the fact that if you choose to be pro-life, then you have the obligation to support the mothers who don't want to be in that situation in the first place. I have a daughter and I love her very much. It's not planned, but I and my wife chose to have her and take care of her. We can't imagine our lives without her anymore, but it's very hard to raise someone else and do it in a proper way. Everything changes in your life and single mothers will go through a lot of difficulties in life, from the need to work and also take care of the children to the mental health questions related.

I feel like if you gonna be pro-life, then support that mother's life and the children's life as well and fight in order to grant her the support that they both need. Being pro-life with "oh, but she choose to spread her legs and must suffer because of that" is what bug me most in that situation. It almost as if being pregnant and have a child is some sort of punishment that those people want to force in others.

I'm trying to be friendly, I swear. hahaha.

Yes!!! that is the biggest thing, the pro-lifers don't even care about the context. they don't care if the mother isn't mature/ mentally stable if the mother isn't financially stable, etc. if the mother doesn't want the child and isn't willing to take good care of it then it is more likely to end up in a neglective/ uncaring home which makes me the angriest and passionate about my beliefs.

I'm pro choice, but while reproductive rights, as mentioned, are important, I also emphasize what happens when people lack reproductive rights- when abortions were illegal, people still got them, just in unsafe environments with unsafe tools, which killed many people. I think the most important thing about this conversation is that birth control methods are a significant part of reproductive rights, and no disrespect, but I wish more pro-life people emphasized the availability of birth control as a method to lower the overall number of abortions.

*To clarify: I'm using gender neutral language & the term "reproductive rights" because I think there's more to being pro choice or pro life than your view on abortion, and that reproductive rights relate to disabled people, gay and trans people, people of color, etc. rather than just cis women because trans men can get pregnant and many marginalized populations face forced sterilization.

i'd be surprised to find someone who is pro-life on this website tbh.

personally, i'm pro-choice. i believe in a person's right to choose and i view abortion negatively as it can be incredibly traumatizing and painful. fewer people would have to endure that experience that with better sex education and access to effective contraceptives. discarding everything else, i suppose my goal is the same as those who are pro-life: to reduce the amount of abortion procedures, i just feel this way for a different reason. however, this is not a perfect world and the right to choose needs to be defended. so i guess my question to anyone pro-life reading this, why does your movement not advocate for changes like better education and contraceptive access that would significantly reduce the amount of abortions? is there a logical answer to that which doesn't include religion?
