god i used to love my local radio station's alternative channel, but they recently sold to a bigger company which totally ruined things. i used to listen because they'd feature local artists and advertise their shows (and i never listen to radio, so this was big), but once they sold, it was all top 40 hits from then on out. i'm also a big cd guy, so sometimes ill just skip streaming all together and cycle through the cd bag in my car lol

my local alt station wasn't very good to begin with, but it was decent enough. Then they changed to a sports station :/. there were some smaller college radio stations that I liked but then I got a new car, and the buttons to search through each channel are so difficult to use that I almost crash every time I wanna change the channel lol. so I haven't listened to the radio in a long time

Yeah, when I found out about it spotify was $14/month and there was no way in hell I was paying that, but the commercials had gotten extremely obnoxious and came on like every other song, even when they promised a free half hour so I was mostly listening to music on YouTube already. It wasn't a huge hardship for me so don't worry about justifying your attachment to a system that works for you. We're all in different circumstances here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Spotify thingie players and the like have all passed me by, I buy CD's but only from artists that I really like and mostly from their own fan websites. I have bought direct form artists after concerts when they do meet and greets. They often pay out to have their own CD's made, so get the most out of their direct sales, also then the CD is directly relatable to the concert i've watched and evokes memories or the evening out. I even used that site where you could pledge money toward a new album from an artist, it took nearly Four years to get my album but I got lots of digital updates and sample tracks along the way so ended up with almost three albums worth of tracks. I felt so connected to the group for those four years. I also listen to the local radio station while at work and hear stuff I like and go looking for CD's after hearing stuff on there.
So the snow and ice didn't become too bothersome for my out of town trip, we got the old lady to her appointment and back again safely the hills were the worst part where the snow was quite deep in places but the roads had been treated so it was all good on the roads. The hospital carpark was clear where the disabled bays were and the old lady had a badge for us to use. So I wheeled her in without any drama. When we returned back to our little town, the day was bright and sunny and all the snow had gone.

I'm a really heavy spotify user (240k minutes this year) and I strongly advocate for supporting artists as best you can. I go to shows, I buy merch, I share their songs with people. Definitely try and support your local music scene if you can as well!
My music scene is relatively small so there's a bit more of a culture of supporting bands through merch and shows as none of them are getting paid for their streams really.

Honestly I'm not so sure about these other options, mostly because I'm not sure if they are doing things right either, also a couple of them are unavailable in my country...
But I do agree the industry is very shady and tends to hide everything from the public, I used to find indie artist lucky since they didn't have to worry about stuff like that, but they too suffer a lot with unrecognition
