ꕥ Talking topic: Easter traditions and superstitions ꕥ

Hey Freethinkers ^_^
Many of us come from different countries and cultures, so I thought it would be interesting to hear about your traditions or even strange superstitions about Easter. Don't forget to share your favorite part about holiday.

I will start and need to warn you from where I am we have quite many so I will share only the most interesting, fun and bizarre ones.
* Egg fights - after the eggs have been collected, the real fun begins. Each family member chooses his egg (hopefully the strongest one). One holds his egg in fist with the fat end up while the other hits the egg with his egg. The one whose egg cracks at both ends loses, and he gives his egg to the winner.
* The first egg always needs to be eaten with salt otherwise you will lie all year. As a child I was so convinced it's actually true that you wont be able to lie even once I tried to avoid putting salt on it by any means. It's become such a habit that I do it even now as a grownup :D
*Egg rolling - this attraction requires eggs, various treats and a 'rene'(can't find translation for this word), such as a board with edges to roll the eggs on. This is a game where you first put the eggs and treats on the ground in different places, then big and small roll the egg on the board, if it touches someones else egg or a treat, it goes to the roller, if it doesn't touch any of these things, it stays on the playing field.
* Swinging - at Easter, everyone should swing properly so that mosquitoes and midges don't bite in the summer, and the coming year will be successful and happy!
It is also believed to swing so that the clouds will disperse and the summer isn't rainy.
* Egg coloring - in Latvia many still color their eggs the old way with natural colorings like onion peels, red cabbage, curry, blueberries or even moss. This my fave part of holiday. When you unwrap each egg it's like a small one of a kind art work. Always makes me very excited.

Can't wait to hear what are your traditions, superstitions and favorite part of holiday ^-^

Love, Blecky ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚

In Poland on Easter Monday morning we splash each other with water. Traditionally it was boys and young men splashing unmarried women with water, but right now everyone splashes everyone. Some people just lightly sprinkle water on others to provide good luck, but in some families it always becomes entire huge water fight. And in some families it takes form of stupid jokes when some people try to take others by surprise and splash water on them.
My family is water fight kind of family, except for grandma who is too old to move and always tries to get others by surprise. This year my sister bought water guns for her and her daughter specifically for this occasion... I don't have a water gun, so I probably will use buckets.

In the USA we have some similar traditions. I grew up with Easter baskets filled with candy and sometimes toys! We would attend an Easter service which is a really big deal to my family. Coloring eggs was always so much fun! Sometimes we would have a big get together with my family and have an outdoor BBQ. I really miss these traditions but I get to forge some of my own now that I am an adult.

Usually on Easter Sunday children decorate branches with colorful feathers and silk paper and then go door by door (just like Halloween trick & treat) and get candies, chocolate eggs or little money in exchange of decorated branch. They usually also dress as Easter witch or bunnies, it's really cute, not sure how common it is elsewhere :)
