It made me remember a reddit post that went viral last year. It was a fan made drawing of two popular male rappers
(who are best friends irl) being very...close to one another. These types of posts were extremely common within said subreddit.
In real life one was in a LTR with an upcoming rapper and the other one literally has a whole kid. One of the guys had his own reddit account and ended up seeing the post. He responded to the drawing with "Ok, deleting reddit for now". The little dude clearly wasn't comfortable with the drawing.
In way I could relate to his problem with being shipped with real life people. In my first year of high school people were shipping me
with a boy that had a very big crush on me, but I didn't feel the same way back. No matter how many times I told people
I wasn't dating him, I didn't like him back, he wasn't my type, that I was uncomfortable and even to the point where I said I hated him.
People still didn't believe me. I was so sick and tired of people feeling entitled to how I'm supposed to feel and who I'm supposed to like.
It did stop once I got to the ninth grade, but that experience made me uncomfortable with shipping irl people (even celebrities), because I know how to it feels to be actively shipped with someone I have no feelings for.
In my opinion, unless these two mutually like each other romantically or are dating, it's kinda creepy. People who are ship platonic friends or a pair where there's a one sided crush, aren't respecting them. In a way they aren't treating the person/people in said ship as somebody with their feelings, thoughts or opinions, they see the subject(s) of the shipping as some dolls to play with for their own entertainment. This stuff is icky and ruins friendships, not kidding.
