If you guys hadn't known this, The US House just passed a new bill called the KIDS Act which will require every website to require users to verify their ages online. Even if you are a grown adult. I know that it is not fully passed yet as it still needs to be passed by the Senate, but I doubt that there will be backlash. To be honest, after hearing about this from a YouTube video, it had ruined my day a little.
You see, the internet is the only place I have to be myself as I am a nonbinary trans-masculine person who is currently in the closet. I have thought about leaving the US for a while, but that news had made me think about it even more. The closest countries I can flee to are Canada or Mexico, but I currently don't have a passport. Those countries require me to learn another language with Canada requiring me to learn French and Mexico with Spanish. I am an intermediate in Spanish but I'm not 100% fluent yet.
This is a lot worse than you guys can imagine because Roblox and Discord has age verification, but they were also hacked and everyone's ids were leaked! Now, I am horrified to hear that Google is thinking about adding a way that you have to use your CREDIT CARD for VERIFICATION! This is a breach in privacy and when most of these laws are created, they say that it is for the kids. But, let me tell you this. THIS IS FOR SURVILANCE AND CONTROL OF THE PEOPLE. Plus, advertisers can also learn more about you which creates more personalized advertising in a more horrifying way.
If this goes into effect, people will try to go around these restrictions and go to alternative sites which make these kinds of laws ABSOLUTELY USELESS! Sure, it will make a lot of minors get outside and make the world a little safer, BUT PARENTS SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THEIR KIDS WHEN USING THE INTERNET, NOT THE GOVERNMENT! PLUS, MOST COMPANIES WILL USE AI ESTIMATION FOR GUESSING PEOPLE'S AGES LIKE WE SAW IN ROBLOX AND DISCORD WHICH ARE WRONG HALF OF THE TIME!
