right now i'm really pushing for my younger sibling to get diagnosed (or into therapy at least) bc it would explain a lot about my entire family (like seriously if everyone is exhibiting similar symptoms of a variety mental illnesses and you all can acknowledge that no one is coping in a good way and that these symptoms aren't "normal" there's probably something going on) :) it all really sucks though bc the parent who mainly handles our insurance and everything genuinely doesn't think mental illness isn't a thing and doesn't talk to their own brother just for taking anxiety medication and if i have to fight this hard to get my younger sibling any help in my own family then i'm definitely not going to get it any time soon with all the normal outside factors :)))))

On the topic of self-diagnosis, I think it's extremely damaging when people say they have a certain condition without medical confirmation. Self-diagnosis is never a good idea, always consult medical professionals.

I think I might have ptsd, whether it's severe or not idk. I'm working on getting evaluated because I've been seeing so much wrong things going on within myself that I feel the need to figure out: reality distortion, escapism, possible body dysmorphia(?), long-running emotional control problems. it's been manageable my whole life up until recently. I also think I have misophonia that has only gotten worse in recent months, especially because my auditory triggers are things like loud breathing, weird mouth noises, snorting/sniffling up snot, etc. which aren't things I can just tell people to stop yknow? it's hard on a day to day basis being around people who make these noises constantly and not being able to stop it, which I think is adding to whatever I was talking about before. not very fun times :/

If I am being honest what I see on the rise is a sea of self diagnosis. People live indeed in very unstable conditions, but if we look at the modality of human family structures, they are not based upon validation and examination. What people learn as young children is that, to be able to get attention and thus love and affection, they have to present a problem. I know people will hate me for it, but I do believe, that there is a mass of population, that, even though in a lot of cases is entirely subconscious, present a problem, that in and of itself doesn't really manifests in reality. You won't get it out of them, because since this is the only way their mind thinks, that they can get their love and affection and sense of significance, their ideologies are burried deep enough to not slide out of character. And this also happens, because people have no intrinsic sense of self. They need constant validation. That's why everything is about "normalizing this, normalizing that". It's one to want to educate people. What we are achieving though, is the complete erasure of serious and adequate information and methodology of therapy for the sake of political correctness and approval. Now, aside from that, the dsm criteria is out for public use. This is the same thing, that the psychiatrists are using. You can look it up and genuinely see how these symptoms are manifesting in your life and what kind of troubles are creating. You can indeed determine whether you exhibit those symptoms and how they affect you, so that later you speak with a professional, who will be able to determine your condition. Bare in mind everything stems from some sort of traumatic event. Examine your past, your feelings and patterns of action and be open and honest mostly with yourself. I hope this doesn't piss many people off tho.

i only got diagnosed with autism at 16. there had been a lot of obvious symptoms, but my dad never took me to get tested. jump to 2017, i got admitted to a mental hospital where they finally tested me for autism, and im glad i got the diagnosis bc it explains a lot. currenly working on getting a bpd diagnosis bc i have a lot of the symptoms and have had a very traumatizing and unstable childhood, and my psychologist agrees on the symptoms, but i just havent been able to get fully tested (its really hard to get tested imo). its better to have a diagnosis than to tell everyone i have something i might not have, because i want to be 100% sure of what i have.

I feel like I might have ASD and/or ADHD. I have spent a few months researching both, they are both pretty similar and I have symptoms of both. I don't know where to start with a diagnosis, but I really want one or to at least talk to a professional about it because I really think it'd be useful in finding a job/uni.

problems I think I face in getting a diagnosis:
- I am AFAB
- I'm more "hyposensitive" than "hypersensitive." I'm only super sensitive to smells and tastes. I LOVE loud noises. (I guess everyone is different, however this gives me major imposter syndrome)
- I am/was a gifted kid.
- I never showed a lot of my problems- I was always "weird" but I tried my best to hide it. Everyone always thought I was a bit off though lol. When I try to talk to my parents about it they deny any symptoms I showed in my childhood even when they had previously confirmed it.
