I have come full circle and I do not hate minions anymore. Minions are cute. I hate what capitalism did to minions.

I honestly couldn't wrap my head around why Karens in their 40s and 50s felt liberated to freakin' obsess over a silly ass cartoon character aimed at the 6-12 demographic because "teehee I'm so hip and quirky" when those same bitches are the EXACT type to turn around and tell me I'm "getting a little too old for Pokemon" at twenty-five but hate is a strong word I guess

I'm sure I've ranted about this somewhere on bimboland before, but it's worth repeating.

Natural cosmetics are not better. Skincare in particular. Because like, what does natural even mean??? I don't know if white middle class women who think they're being smart drowning their face in food grade coconut oil know this, but nature consists of chemicals. Everything is a chemical, Karen. Even the synthetically created chemicals still come from nature. Whoever said it first was so right, NaTuRe Is A cHeMiCaL!

"Natural skincare" implies that components that are heavily treated, you know, in a sanitary environment in order to be made stable and clean and safe to put on your face, are inferior to less treated plant extracts and what is essentially a bottle of essential oils with some glycerin sprinkled on top touted as a toner.

I hate it. There are genuinely good and innovative cosmetic companies that really do the research and even find new less used sources for skincare ingredients, but a lot of these companies just wanna sell you a less stable, more irritating and more smelly product because "natural is better". The components in skincare are clinically treated for a reason. And it's so stupid that skincare has been artificially sectioned based on how treated the components in a product are. It's exactly like when toy companies decided to split toys into boy's toys and girl's toys. It's a marketing gimmick.

All skincare is natural. The only thing that really differentiates prducts from each other are the ingredients. I recommend learning to look at ingredient lists. There's this website which has a dictionary, that gives you an explanation of what most skincare ingredients do, that's really helpful for spotting lousy products.

I'm inclined to agree 110% but it's also important to remember that not all skincare ingredients, whether they be naturally occurring or synthesized, are beneficial or even remotely safe to be slathering all over yourself. This is especially true in the United States where cosmetic regulations are a lot more lenient than in, say, most of Europe or South Korea. In fact, many chemicals utilized in American-made beauty products are unsafe, unhealthy, even downright carcinogenic - toxic heavy metals, minimally-refined mineral oils, potentially asbestos-contaminated talc, and volatile parabens that exhibit a positive correlation to breast cancer, just to name a few. And some ingredients, like the previously mentioned petrolatum products, do very little for your skin even if they do happen to be safely and thoroughly refined. Vaseline and the like serve as a "meh" occlusive agent at best and are for the most part just cheap fillers used by conglomerate corporations looking to squeeze every last cent of profit possible out of the fossil fuel industry. Yuck. So tl;dr no, a little silicone in your primer or synthetic retnoid in your wrinkle serum isn't going to kill you and may actually prove beneficial to your beauty routine as a whole, but if an ingredient seems suspicious it's probably best to do your own research and decide for yourself whether or not it's something you're willing to put on your body. Thx for coming to my TED talk <3
P.S.: Whether you're in the market for a new serum, a new regimen or anything in between, one brand I seriously can't recommend enough is The Ordinary. They offer the perfect blend of clean beauty sensibilities and pure scientific innovation. Straightforward, honest formulas with clinically-proven actives, a wide variety of products that can be mixed-and-matched to suit almost any skin type, amazingly affordable (and that's coming from someone on a full-time student's budget. Seriously, I've had to do a double take on some of their prices. I don't think they carry a single item over $20 and most are in the $5 to $10 range! You'd be paying double for half the quality almost anywhere else!), and most importantly 100% cruelty-free! Hop on over and check them out, I promise you'll be glad you did.

Probably gonna get hate for this but most emo kids today try way too damn hard to be edgy and will never rock it as hard as the effortless OGs did in 2005-2010. Also half the point of that whole scene was the sense of rebellion, individuality, and community that came along with belonging to a marginalized subculture, now that all things "alternative" are actually mainstream af it just doesn't feel as sincere idk. Maybe I'm just getting old. This must be how 80s punkers felt when Green Day hit the bigtime and everyone started going around thinking they were hardcore
