This thread really isn't the place to be discussing cultural appropriation. If anyone has a problem with the name(s) of the suggested themes they could have just privately messages TokiKonoe about changing the name and she could have explained what could and could not be done. And if enough people complained a post may have been posted in regards to this by TokiKonoe explaining the situation. Thus avoiding all this "drama" for lack of a better word. Remember some of us just want to enjoy bimboland "drama" free. So if you really want to talk about cultural appropriation or bimboland's rules maybe do it somewhere more appropriate.

Well - I don't really feel comfortable going into detail about my experience with gender or misogyny on a public forum on bimboland but if you're offended by my username, I can at least say it's ironic and not something you need to worry about. In the same vein as a gay person jokingly saying they are homophobic.

Don't mind me I'm just stirring the pot to lighten the mood. I'm not offended by the term spirit animal nor am I offended by those who want to remove it. But bear in mind the ancient Egyptians, Greco Romans, the Celts, and the Norse all have some form of totemism and animism as well. I've spent a lot of time in Sedona, AZ where native Americans offer vision quests tailored to finding ones animal of enlightenment, not exclusive to any group. In my experience, they view the concept of a spirit animal or animal guide as universal and all inclusive, we all have these guides. Modern day paganism certainly incorporates the concept of animal spirit guides. I personally have believed in this concept since childhood, well before my knowledge of indigenous cultures, who's own definition varies by tribe. Anyhow carry on, carry on.
My vote is to suspend the PBFC pending a revision and refinement of the rules!
Suggesting and voting for new themes all too often leads to argument rather than debate and tends to get personal. The rules are designed to protect us from offensive themes and maintain good community values but it seems to me that the rules themselves are a greater source of conflict that the themes that have been proposed. The rules should make clear what is or is not allowed. While some rules are well defined they are being interpreted in a way that was not originally intended while other are wide open to interpretation and too easily used to support claims of offence (whether real or perceived) or violation of community standards. Everybody has different standards and we are not going to agree with each other about everything. But we are a community and so should acknowledge that there are accepted community standards and values (even though we as individuals may not necessarily always agree with all of them all of the time). I think the rules are the source of conflict here. Our personalities won’t change much no matter how much we argue but perhaps we can focus our energies on the rules and changing them. I acknowledge that there has been some really good and honest debate on some issues and not everybody who speaks out has bad intent. I also like to extend my support to the forum moderators who devote their time to representing this community and upholding its standards and who often have to manage contentious and heated forum debate (despite what they may personally think about the matter at hand). In the case of this forum and the arguments that often transpire I think they too suffer as a result of the rules and they get little support and love from the general community for their effort.

When someone doesn't know that something is offensive or appropriation, the correct action should be to educate them rather than attack, vilify, taunt, go tit for tat, and insult their intelligence. It takes maturity to not make your emotional reaction take over the intent of explaining something that can usually be cleared up with respectful dialogue.
