Dear Flamboyant Faggot,

It's supposed to be of a houri from the Silk Road, from Samarkand. And the them was taken from a DFCQ when we were supposed to put together a costume from 'Asia'? And, as I said, ALL fashion is cultural appropriation.

....its not. its literally not. its very easy to find fashion that isnt appropriation. you giving a single specific example of cultural appropriation doesnt mean all fashion is.

dont you think if people struggle to work out what culture youre appropriating that makes it obvious just how much of a racist mess the look is? it being from a racist dqfc doesnt make the look less racist or make your attempt at making a point w the "ALL fashion is cultural appropriation" intentional misunderstanding of the word appropriation shit less pathetic and racist?

Quick reminder: Not everyone is going to agree with the opinions expressed by users in this thread, as the name implies. And that's fine. Bickering over the unpopular opinions is what got the original thread closed, so I'd ask you guys to stay on topic. If you want to talk further about the specifics of particular opinions and the thoughts behind them, I would say either make a different thread, or take it to the PM's before it derails the entire thread.

Unpopular opinion: Being able to lay eggs would be pretty cool.

i could easily write a whole essay on this, so i will try to be as concise as possible. the saying ‘adopt don’t shop’ is largely misguided. as someone who has worked in the kennel of a pet store, sometimes being the sole caretaker of over 100 puppies at once, i agree that you shouldn’t buy pets from them. but there are plenty of reputable breeders that exist. also, due to the incomplete or missing information that shelters usually have on their animals, that is not always a good option for people. adopting a shelter pet is more of a financial risk than adopting from a reputable breeder as a reputable breeder can provide you with the animal’s lineage and medical history, while a shelter pet may be at higher risk for certain medical conditions since the origin and experiences of the animal are generally unknown. of course there are exceptions, but because the phrase ‘adopt don’t shop’ generalizes, i will generalize too. in addition, behavioral problems are more likely in shelter pets, which is not something everybody can handle. people with lower income can’t always provide for a pet with extensive vet bills, people with children can’t always put all the time and effort that a pet with fear-aggression demands.

most importantly, though, is that i don’t trust people who care more about animal rights than human rights. let me rephrase that before it gets misconstrued; caring about animal rights is not bad, but if you care more about them being mistreated than you do about humans being mistreated, i don’t trust your priorities.
i'm not sure if u work solely with puppies/dogs (in which case i cant actually refute what ur saying because i just dont have enough knowledge on that specific topic), but as the owner of a decent amount of guinea pigs i can't apply this same logic to them. a large problem w/ guinea pig breeders is that they will typically breed the animals too often and past the age that they are supposed to give birth (females shouldnt be bred after 8 mo. of age because both them and the babies can develop a lot of problems, yet many breed them well into the older years). knowing this now, i wouldn't want to support this breeding practice by buying from them when i could just adopt an unwanted pet.

the first set of guinea pigs me and my sister had got across 2012 and 2013 were from breeders as, at the time, we weren't aware that adopting could be a better alternative. but STILL over half of them still had underlying genetic conditions which eventually led to us having to spend a lot on surgery over the years and even more on medication to manage the conditions. it was even more of a struggle bc u cant get insurance for guinea pigs. so, in my personal experience, we didn't save any money from getting pets from a breeder (i later learnt that with g pigs, a lot of breeders may apparently inbreed them which leads to them developing these genetic conditions). only 2 of the handful of gpigs we adopted have turned out to have underlying medical conditions.

i agree completely with the point of adoption generally being uncertain bc u are unaware of their medical history, but in my experience the same also applies to some breeders. i think pets are a decent responsibility so u have to be prepared, no matter where u get them from, to pay a lot of extra costs regardless. if u avoid adoption bc u feel as though money is going to be a problem in the future, you have to ask whether u will be able to afford a pet store or bred(?) animal  as u may very well still have to pay extremely hefty costs in the future.
as someone who comes from an extremely low income family + even gets govt support, i'd say our personal mistake was not considering how expensive pets are before taking on the burden. this doesn't mean lower income individuals shouldn't be able to experience having pets! just really think abt it

whew that was long, unpopular opinion: the cream part of oreos are so nasty and i always have to scrape it out and just eat the biscuit
