Hi Dear Secvillians and Ximbos,

It’s that time of the month again, where we chat together in The Flutter! For those who don't know, The Flutter is Secville's monthly thread with a dedicated topic each month. Everyone, from Secville or not, is encouraged to participate!

Birthstones: we all have one (or a couple)! Birthstones are precious or semi-precious gemstones that are associated with each month. Each of them have different characteristics and attributes that benefit the wearer, especially during their designated month. These attributes can range from bringing mental clarity to repelling evil spirits and anything in-between! There are 2 different lists where people can check their birthstones: the Traditional and the Modern!

Did you know that those born in the month of March have 2 different birthstones? Most of you all might be familiar with aquamarines, but March babies also have bloodstones as their birthstone! Aquamarines have been thought of by ancient mariners as a gem that would calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea. People also that it would bring happiness in marriage. It is said that Bloodstones help with blood circulation, increase strength and preserving health and youth. They have even been said to give invisibility!

So let us know! What is your birthstone? Do you prefer your traditional birthstone or your modern one? What do you think about gemstones and jewelry? Do you believe in the attributes of birthstones and other gems?

P.S. Come vote in the next Secville poll for this month’s Fashion Contest! Secville-votes only.
P.P.S. Whoever replies to this post and engages on on-topic conversation within the next 24 hours will get a donation between $200,000 - 300,000 Bimbo Dollars! (one time donation only, depending on number of participants)

since i'm a december baby, my birthstone is turquoise / blue topaz. when i was a kid i was always kind of annoyed that i didn't get a traditionally "pretty" gem like garnet, and instead got stuck with turquoise which can't be cut. when i found out blue topaz was also my birthstone i was like :-O !! i confess like it a lot better, although because topaz is the november birthstone i feel a bit cheated with the blue version sometimes lol. i think it's very interesting that blue topaz has different "hues" of blue that it can be categorized by!
now that i'm older i have a bit more of an appreciation for turquoise, though, and i do think it's a pretty stone! once i got a bit older i also found out that turquoise has special meaning in native american culture and creation myths, which i think is really cool, especially as someone who reads myths and history for enjoyment and my degree :-) if you buy turquoise jewelry you should support native american small businesses!! they make some really amazing stuff.

my birthstone is an emerald, for may, and luckily, my stone is the same in the modern and traditional categories, so i dont have to pick a fav (though if it was something else, i'd probably still pick emerald). i dont wear a lot of gemstones irl, but i think the look of pearls and opal are to die for, huge fan of opal rings and pearl earrings. according to the american gem society, emeralds are "a symbol of loyalty, new beginnings, peace, and security", very taurian (even though im a gemini lol)

So I didn't know about the modern vs traditional birthstone thing at all. I'm an August baby so growing up I knew my birthstone was peridot. I was always kinda disappointed mine wasn't amethyst because my favourite colour is purple. And as far as greens go peridot isn't my fave shade of those either.

Spinel is also associated with August birthstones but I think of my 3 choices the traditional one of Sardonyx suits me best. I like the black sardonyx with the stripes.

I don't really believe in birthstones as being anything other than a pretty stone. I'm not really into astrology either. As for jewelry I don't wear much other than some chains on my pants and sometimes rings... now that I think about it sardonyx would make a cool ring...

My birthstone is pearl, notably not a stone, and I'll admit I don't like it all that much. The coloration is often bland and the limitation to shape is unfortunate. It is cool that they are produced by a living creature, but that introduces some ethical concerns. I do think the modern birthstone, alexandrite, is much prettier. The range of color is very cool and all the colors it can be a very pretty.

I also didn't know about the traditional vs modern thing. (That said, mine is the same for both traditional & modern, so it doesn't affect me.) If anything, I would have thought there might be cultural differences between the significance of stones.

My birthstone means nothing to me. I think I might own a pair of earrings with my birthstone. But I literally never wear earrings. It's been years!

Again, maybe it's a cultural thing. Are birth stones more important in some countries, religions, or other cultural groups?

(No need to donate B$ to me. My post is free.)

my birthstone is an emerald, i just happen to not like green alot  ◞‸◟i only like certain colors of green and emerald is too greeny for me. i looked it up and emerald is the modern and trad soo i don't have a fav,, i see some opal nose horseshoe rings a lot online, other than that i don't wear jewelry. for attributes on gems i think if you put intent onto it then maybe, people's intent is stronger than they think. side note: i like these green: 123524 , 117755 , 42b5d

ooooo im a june baby, so it depends on where i look at birthstones!!! pearl, alexandrite and moonstone are what google says and i actually have quite a few pearl necklaces (all of them i inherited, not sure if all of them are real lol!!!) i got them from my mom's side of the family from my grandparents and great grandparents who have since passed away, so when i wear pearls it's more to honor them than it is to represent my birthstone

fellow June baby here, but I absolutely adore pearls. i personally don’t care for the ‘modern’ stone for me - pearl is always going to be mine and i feel like it suits me to a tea c: im not the biggest fan of like, a ring of pearls together, but a singular pearl on a piece of jewellery is just super classic to me (like a ring) and since they’re more known to be an off white, goes with almost all clothing fits c:

hater (affectionate)
i also like alexandrite! i really love the color shifting effect it has and i’d love to get something with it someday. i don’t think there’s any other gem other than opals that has that kind of color shift. it’s cool that some newer gemstones are becoming more popularized
(honey, please don’t gift me B$ on this account, i have enough lol i’d rather it go to moonset where i made an actual good post)
