i think a kawaii/j fashion category and a white party category would both be a lot of fun!
Alternative/subculture
is starting to sound better and better, it can contain so many styles in it
(like punk, grunge and I also think cyber punk could fall under this too?) Then
goth could go into it too, right but I honestly think we shouldn’t overthink
this and just leave the goth be – same goes for majority of current categories.

I agree, categories shouldn’t be too specific anyway because it would limit dressing up too much. Like, we should definitely not have different categories for football, skiing, aerobics because we already have fitness sporty. That was just an example, but I hope you get what I mean here. Also no for Christmas, Easter since we have seasonal (or holidays? if it happens)… it just doesn't make sense.
What bothers me in holidays category is that it is pretty specific, outfits would probably be changing very slow and it is falling under seasonal category (which people are using for holiday looks already). I’m not excited about the idea of waiting for the upcoming holiday or hide my slot until the holiday comes. Even less I’m interested to dress up in a Christmas look in summer. But it might be just me and I tend to change my outfits pretty often. And you can have those outfits under Seasonal anyway. But it will be in a poll anyway and I love holiday looks and will wear them no matter which category will be suitable then :).
Magical/paranormal category is going very close to fantasy in my opinion and then people might be facing the same troubles they now have with popculture and cosplay categories. I will add it to poll if people want it, they will vote for it.
I will add the rest of your ideas to the poll as well, the hobby one was my personal favorite
And PIXIEEE, thanks for joining :) You have some nice ideas as well, but pretty specific too. (Clubbing definitely goes under party category and dinner could go under date, romantic). I will leave tourist from the poll since travel is already there and it's basically a same thing. And I try to not to repeat some themes in there, otherwise the poll will be so long that people don't want to scroll it and see all the options.
also~ maybe being able to have multiple outfits for one category would be good. so that way if u want to have like a christmas and halloween look, for example, those can both go under 'seasonal'. and when someone checks out ur page they can fight either look?

Not to look for new ideas how toto change outfits creating system. There is a separate thread where we post new ideas how to change the game :)

has anyone suggested changing retro to vintage? i feel like vintage covers a much broader time frame than retro, so it might give people a bit more confidence to try new styles that dont really fall under retro (victorian/edwardian, 1920s, etc).

Okay, our beautiful Misaki Hariyama messaged me suggesting about suggestion about replacing some old categories with new ones. For example popculture and cosplay are very similiar with each other and therefore make players struggle, so they could be combined together and make one category of them which would allow us to have 1 more brand new category. How would you people feel about suggestion like this? This was done last year as well, so I know it is very possible to replace a category with another.
