Thanks Melpomene, that was really useful! (I still have no idea how to tag people, whoops...) A big level of subjectivity was the impression I'd gotten of the contests I'd seen, but I've run contests elsewhere (on a writing forum) and that's unavoidable if you want to avoid the inevitable popularity contest. I also would've been wondering if having to post a link had sabotaged mine if it had come down to votes.
Fwiw though I really did like Blazzze's too and was a little surprised she didn't place, (and not just because I like Blazzze!), so I can see why hers got a lot of votes. I saw several entries that were almost identical and not too many really utilizing the permission to use ANY shop item even if you didn't own it like hers did.
Really enjoying these little contests though and thanks to Eunyce and others who take the time to set them up. (And I believe also have to provide the prizes themselves? At least according to something else I read.)

My edits didn't go through I guess because someone replied, I just was adding that this was the first contest I'd seen that allowed and encouraged screenshots from the shop, particularly helpful with us newbies. And it really is fun getting to go a little crazy with designs that way without worrying whether you can scrape together the money in time.

I've been a bit offline these past few days and I was not able to address this. To give a bit of context, this specific contest is made for new users so they can get a bit of a kick start to their experience here. I've hosted contests in the past and I always noticed how easy lower lvl users get lost among the entries. Higher level users, especially those of us who've been here for a long time, kinda forgot the value of B$ and how hard it is to make them. But we are on a dress-up game website, it is all about dress-up and creativity and expression, so this was a way of leveling the playing field a bit so everyone can enjoy the experience.
The winners for this contest were chosen based on a mix of factors: how creative or “out of the box” the outfit was (unique details, interesting use of items, colors, etc), how much they could benefit from the prizes and of course my own judgment. Since the prizes for a contest are provided by the host, personal taste naturally plays a role in the final decision. I always do my best to keep things balanced and fair, but differences in opinion are part of the process and to be expected. There have been times when I couldn’t decide so I gave special mention prizes. Other times I included an audience vote. And for contests like monthly faves each edition has a different judge - I chose this approach because there will always be some level of subjectivity & having a new judge each time gives more people a chance to win.
I love hosting, I love seeing everyones outfits and more than anything I love seeing NEW outfits and choosing NEW winners. There were times when someone was in the podium for more contests in a row & times when each podium had completely different users. I am sorry this raised questions/created confusion and thank you for asking! I hope it won't stop anyone from entering in the future ^^
Regarding the prizes: when we send them out, we have to choose a thread where the message is posted. It can either be the contest thread or the Gift & Rewards thread. I simply misclicked and ended up sending the last one here. The winners always receive an automatic DM confirming they got a prize, regardless of where the message appears in the forum.
I hope this clarifies things a bit more xx
