Yeah I think I eventually might pursue laser treatment or something to help my skin texture, but probably later on... when I have an actual salary LOL

Oooooh! This thread.... I frickin love makeup. My main passion in life is art, and makeup to me is just another canvas. I love trying out alternative makeup styles, had a stint with cosplay as a teen that's been on pause thanks to life becoming too busy (but this is something I'm getting back into now), and I am currently into mixing harajuku makeup styles with what's currently trendy in the west.

I love Colourpop too btw, I just bought a bunch of their monochrome palettes during the holidays. I just wish they didn't release a new thing every other week, and lately their stuff has just been variations of safe neutrals and I'm here like "how many shades of brown could you possibly need????"

My one big gripe with makeup is that I have really heavy eyelids. It restricts doing eye makeup (which is my favourite part too...) because I have virtually no lidspace. I can kind of apply some of the techniques used for monolids on them, but I often rely on eyelid tape (yes, that's a thing) when I'm trying to do something nice. I'm hoping to gather the courage to go to eyelid surgery in the coming years though.

And far as skincare goes, lately I've been trying to get away from a lot of skin makeup. Foundation, concealer, any cream products basically. Because I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather save my money and time by focusing on skincare instead of a good foundation, that's gonna look awful on my dry ass skin no matter what and inevitably make me breakout. I prefer no bullshit simple skincare, like The Ordinary, whose chemical exfoliators and niacinamide serum are regulars in my routine.

My hot tip is to avoid fragrance and essential oils in skincare. Neither of them serve a real purpose and actually irritate and damage skin in long term use. Like, you'll be using them during your 20s and one day you wake up 40 and realize, that your skin is rejecting just about everything in your cosmetics collection. Look at the ingredients of a product you're thinking of buying, if you see linalool, limonene, anything citrus related, or some plant oil, run away. These don't matter as much in wash-off products, because they're not gonna be on your face for more than 15 minutes max, but I'd avoid these at least in leave-on products.  But also always check information you get on the internet, don't just take my word for it. Even I don't always abide by my own advice. I use a bunch of Glow Recipe's products in my skincare routine,  even though some of their products have added fragrance. Their ingredient lists aren't the worst thing ever, and their packaging is just so damn nice and using their stuff makes me feel nice and fancy.

Question for anyone interested:
Do you think scrubs should be completely abolished in favour of chemical exfoliation? I say yay, but I have dry skin so I'm biased because I can get by without scrubs, and am in fact better off without them.

Why do people keep calling e-fashion rebranded emo fashion? I am genuinely asking, because aesthetically they're little alike??? And like, emo fashion was clearly Western to me, whereas e-fashion looks to me like it's drawing inspiration from Harajuku styles and Korean fashion to Western mainstream?

Oh! It's because they both share the internet culture isn't it! Emos had myspace and now there's instagram. Right?

i def see the inspirations from korean fashion but harajuku fashion is A Lot more over-the-top than your average e-person. no matter what type of harajuku youre looking at (decora kei, fairy kei, etc) the point is to really just go all out bc it developed as a subculture specifically in response to people who like to dress like that being told that they shouldnt wear it in public, its too much, its embarrassing, etc.

as for the similarities between emo and e-fashion, part of it is the internet component like you said, crafting a persona and making your page look rad. it's lost the component of the usage of web graphics but there's still the picture editing and filters.

but i'm not really sure how you don't see the resemblance? imo e-fashion is just what would happen if emo became a thing in the late 2010s. the building blocks are all there: lots of jewelry, dark brows and eyeliner, dark clothes + bright hair, chokers, band t-shirts, belts with chains on them, sleeves with thumb holes cut in them, long-sleeved black and white striped shirts under t-shirts. just a few things off the top of my head
