I believe in God, but I dislike some people's small ideas of God. I believe God is an infinite force encompassing all things.

That was some serious writing Spacy !!!
You are obviously an A+ student.  I even learned from your report.  Indeed I'm quite speechless with the thoroughness of your statement.
You, mentioned some very great thinkers, in history yet all are mortal and thus know as much as anyone else about God. Nothing, really but theory.
Some questions cannot be answered, or ever proven on Earth.  Fun to speculate about, but sometimes it is just best to let your heart lead you to what feels comfortable.

I don't have a church.  I also don't have all the answers about the universe.  I can only bear my own testimony to my belief.
I am one of the Christians you mentioned that does believe in evolution too.  I cannot tell you why, because it was just something I concluded by myself.  The evidence is obvious.  Yet, I also don't believe the world was created in six days as Bible stories tell us. What is the length of a day in infinity?
No mortal can even comprehend how long that might be.  The Bible is not a factual book in my opinion.  it is more of a guide-book written in very colorful metaphors, and old fashioned language.  In seminary Our teacher would often ask the class to just open the book to any page and read a random verse to the class, and explain what it ment to the individual chosen.  Sometimes the belief matched the rest of the class, yet more often it took a more personal turn towards the person giving the presentation.  How did they interpret the book as relating to their Life?
We always saw our classmates in a new light and an honest one, that might have been very painful to express for some members.  That teacher was brilliant, too.  I wasn't lectured about stars or even order in the Universe.  He made the Bible PERSONAL to everyone with his demonstration, and lesson plan.  It was not even an assigned test, and anyone could opt-out.  Not a single class member ever did though.  We chose to be there and learned more about ourselves than GOD.

The religion I grew up in had one interesting concept that Spacebaby mentioned in his first/opening post. It is not good to question the unknown and impossible to know.  I always wondered about it, like it was forbidden fruit.   Over time, I understood that you can never trust a human to tell you what God should mean to you.  God is a personal subject you will grow old with.  In 6 days? or 1006? It might even last for an infinite amount of time.  Is that Hell?  Perhaps.  It was never meant to counter Science, or promote ignorance.Instead it was guidance to avoid dealing with the supernatural.

I hesitate to say this,  but as a rebellious youth I played with a Ouija Board, and was Horrified.  Not with what it wrote out but by the power and events that followed.  Some people will think it is just a game, but I know it is much more.  Can I prove it,  NO .  Was it GOD?  certainly NOT as well.

Your thoughts are exactly the view I take on religion - many people take the Bible LITERALLY when, in fact, it is very outdated because we are a species that grows and changes and builds new morals and normality with each generation. Does that mean I think the bible is irrelevant? Absolutely not! The Bible, as HLB said, can be taken in metaphor. I know many Christians who follow science and accept it but they also follow the Bible - not in a literal sense but in a metaphorical one which I think is a beautiful way to view it.

I'm a Lay Buddhist and the Buddha taught to never accept fully his words on the Eightfold path or the precepts but to test them for ourselves. All the myth and legend behind the Buddha's story is just that - myth and legend. Parables and stories are told all throughout Buddhism as a means to view something better - like enlightenment. The metaphor in this context is that a fish cannot know or describe what it is like to be on land because he simply has not experienced it himself. We cannot explain enlightenment because we have never experienced it!

When people view the Bible they should view it personally, just as HLB stated, because it is a very old and outdated book where many laws and morals have changed and so we must help sacred texts change with us by viewing them as powerful metaphors and personal refuges. God is a personal being and people may not always mean literally the God of classical theism. The Bible, too, is a personal book.

I think that religion can be a very beautiful thing. Do I believe in God? No. Most likely not. Could I believe in God in a metaphorical sense? YES! I'm not encouraged to think about his/hers existence as I could think about it my whole life and never really discover the truth. Does the question still spur something inside me, as a human being - a finite being? Of course. I will never personally search for the presence or evidence of God tirelessly but I will always be fascinated by the idea of a divine designer, someone who was able to cause creatio ex nihilo, even if I lean more to opposing it. It's just human nature.

Spacy wrote another beautiful post, that leaves me with many thoughts and I'm not sure how to organizes them all, so I'll pick just one.
I personally love the Buddhist concept of enlightenment too.  I can't say I understand it fully, but isn't that the point?  Karma.
Yes, I used that as a single word to describe the human condition.  I've noticed during my lifetime that good things happen when you do good things.  Having negative attitudes generally produce bad results.  A fish may try to look above the waters, at it's peril of a quick death at the hands of a fisherman who want's to eat it.  For a fish it is better to swim deep in the water among the weeds, where there is food for the fish.  I'm speaking metaphorically of course but the concept hold true for humans as well.
Some civilizations looked to the sun as being GOD.  Earth even once was thought to be the center of the Heavens.
None could reach the star we call the sun.  If they had, would they have found God?

I am very careful about how I treat people.  Every person is on a path too, and if what I do, or say effects that progress, would cause me guilt.  It has taken me a long time to reach this conclusion. Reincarnation is a topic that is avoided in Christian religions, yet I do believe it by personal experience. I can't explain why I knew how to fly an airplane when I was just 16 years old, on my first flight with an instructor. By the third flight my instructor would fall asleep and I would have to wake him up as the fuel was getting low. When did I learn to fly an airplane? There was no such thing as video games back then and it just came natural to me to start the engine and take off with no more than a pair of wings and a prayer.
It is a question I ask myself with every news story about a new child prodigy. 11 year old's being accepted into collages, or mater chess-players, or violinists.Ect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFWs2Z_RZ3Y&index=6&list=FLmVnuydas_JMXQY8eptiutg  A 7 year old, that sang a classic song like a professional.  Yet, she was so immature to not even put on shoes for an appearance on a TV show. From what I understand her native language is even not English. She is from Norway and started singing at 1 year 6 months.  How could she sing in a language that she was not bourn into at only the age of 7? Does she have the soul of Frank Sinatra? Questions is how humans GROW into enlightenment.

Karma is a beautiful concept as well as God.  The epic 'Do Over' if you will.  Ok so you made a mistake, try, try, try once again, to get it right.
The Buddha really did have a soul that was enlightened.  In history there has been many religious educators. Each one offering guidance.  It all comes down to this though:
How will YOU live your life  TODAY.

I was thinking about this statement for a few days.  Though a devout Christian myself, I see how someone can be a Pagan as well.  I would prefer to call them Wicca.  Nature you can see, and have faith in because of the obvious evidence in the cycle of life.  Worship a tree. Admire the air you breath that gives you life. Drink the pure water that sustains you.  Pagans are so misunderstood when it comes to religion, and you can thank the early (AD200 onward) Catholic church for that.  There was no tolerance to other belief systems then, and it carried forward with concepts of the devil and HELL.  Shame was a way to build power in a community.
I saw no shame in the early herbalists who were considered witches who knew how to HEAL people using the power of Mother-nature.  The early churches with power did as the general population was dying of plagues all around a golden cross and MEN, who were the only ones who could even read a bible.  (much less know about sanitation, or access to food.)  They made a GOD of GOLD and power through shame, and not charity in the early days of Christianity.

God can come in many forms and it is always a personal thing.

Charles Manson considered himself a god, and convinced followers to murder in his name.  David Koresh  convinced his followers to die and fight just so he could avoid jail for rape of his own followers children.  Jim Jones convinced an entire village to commit suicide because he didn't want his followers free for inspection and visit by concerned family members of a cult member of the village.  All believed in God.  All Found God in Death and a waste of innocent human life and power.
A pity more people do not believe in what an honor it is to live an Earthly existence doing good works for fellow travelers on a path to enlightenment.  A martyrs death is meaningless, if the innocent must die to obtain glory. A suicide bomber doesn't believe in salvation for the children of GOD.  They believe in only death and pain for THOUSANDS of innocent people for political 'EARTHLY reasons.  That is Not GOD.  Be wary believing in what anyone asks you to do in the name of God.
God is inside every innocent soul from birth.  Unfortunately, Humanity breeds distrust and fear and uncertainty.  It is up to you to do what feels right and God-like, to find God.

I've personally known many Wiccan's and indeed they might be the most generous souls I've even encountered.  God is everywhere, if you take the time to look around you with a simple goal.  To live a good life.  God made everything possible even in the smallest living thing in the universe.
