my opinion on transitioning
i transitioned at 14 because i’d been suffering from debilitating gender dysphoria since i was 11, and therapy didnt fix it.
“Instead of immediately going to doctor for hormones and/or puberty blockers go to therapy.” this is literally what happens. therapy is part of the process. this is fully outlined in WPATH’s standards of care which you can read online. a minor can not transition unless they 1. meet the diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria (which is not simple gender nonconformity please for the love of god just look up the criteria) 2. have received a comprehensive evaluation to rule out other potential issues being interpreted as gender dysphoria 3. are actively managing any other psychiatric comorbidities 4. can demonstrate that they understand the full details and implications of the treatments they are receiving. if it seems like they don’t fully understand, transitioning doesn’t happen. if they have untreated mental illnesses, transitioning doesn’t happen. if the evaluation concludes that the minor is not ready for any reason, transitioning doesnt happen. if the minor doesnt meet the diagnostic criteria for gender dysphoria, transitioning CERTAINLY doesnt happen since its a treatment for gender dysphoria. like? WPATH has incredibly detailed standards and procedures for treating minors with gender dysphoria and they’re remarkably effective at weeding out the kids who don’t actually have gender dysphoria because transitioning is a treatment for gender dysphoria.
also no puberty blockers do not ‘destroy your organs and hormones’ jesus fucking christ. gnrh agonists are competitive inhibitors of a natural hormone called gnrh. gnrh stimulated gnrh receptors in a specific pulsating fashion and the pulsation further stimulates production of sex hormones. gnrh agonists are analogues of gnrh that stimulate the gnrh receptors but in a non-pulsatile fashion so sex hormone production is inhibited because the biological pathway is blocked. they do not in any way shape or form “destroy” your organs or hormones. once again they are routinely used to treat endometriosis and prostate cancer. they are also used to temporarily delay spontaneous ovulation to specifically time it with IVF or other fertility treatments. gnrh agonists inhibit sex hormone production and when you stop taking them they stop inhibiting it because they are no longer in your body. before yall tell other people what they should or shouldnt do could you please at least just google how hormones actually work? pretty please? can you do that for me?
also i feel like i am being misunderstood. if i have not been clear i apologize. i have repeatedly said that men walking into a womens facility simply because they want to is a bad thing. i dont know how many more times i have to say that. there is no evidence that that happens more often or barely at all because of legal protections for trans people. that is also not the same as fully unisex facilities, i.e. non-single use facilities that anyone of any sex or gender can use at any time. i’m also going to remind that the definition of what “looks like a man” is not the same thing from person to person or place to place.

2. transitioning is by far the best evidenced treatment for gender dysphoria and has an incredibly low rate of regret
3. the standards of care for treatment of gender dysphoria are detailed, robust, evidence-based, and very effective at ensuring treatment is ethical and developmentally appropriate
4. the burden of proof rests with the opponents of access to this care for minors and the burden of proof has not been met. at all.
5. there is no evidence anywhere in the world that trans women using womens facilities or trans people being able to legally self-determine their gender has compromised womens material safety

fun fact: do you know that disturbed sense of one's own gender is a symptom of many diseases like schizpohrenia? And yet we don't even do anything about it. We just agree to give minors hormones and puberty blockers at age they shouldn't have it. And overall puberty blockers don't just magically 'stop puberty' those are drugs used to chemically castrate sex offenders, but no one wants to talk about it. They don't stop puberty, they literally destroy your hormones and organs that produce them. My solution? Therapy. no one is making bank off of a few thousand kids in the entirety of the US transitioning. there is not some financial conspiracy. trans kids exist in countries with completely nationalized healthcare. china opened its first clinic for trans kids in 2021. this kind of just exemplifies the whole issue with these types of conversations. there’s no paper trail to indicate a financial conspiracy, simple numbers means its highly unlikely that this is lucrative, there’s substantial evidence that the standards of care are followed by the majority of care providers, but none of that matters because vibes ig? like yeah i’m living in a bubble but i’m the only bitch who’s pulled out data instead of just talking about bad things that Could Hypothetically Potentially Be Happening be so fr

the majority of detransitioners are still in support of trans healthcare and trans people as a whole. as a non-american, trans people are everywhere. they are not a parasite, they have been a part of humanity since the creation of gender. intersex people were seen in gods. non binary people were respected. trans people were affirmed. i struggle to understand the problem with an increasing population of trans folk when its estimated to plateau before hitting 10%.

my mom helped me get top surgery lmao shes my biggest supporter i love her so much she was like well if it makes you happier and i am happier so thats thataw me too! she got a double mastectomy for breast cancer, then got implants put in (fully paid by insurance) bc she hated not having tits. so when i wanted surgery, she didnt see any difference between what she did & what i wanted. we heart bodily autonomy
