Globfishes! Awww :) Every good place needs a good pet!
Thanks for the tea *takes a sip* It's warming me up.

That's really cute. It's true, when you see the photo you remember the exact moment.

My mother used to put them in albums with a brief phrase (generally funny) below each one.
I remember two pics in black and white she took. One of my father and the other of me. Both with a really serious expression in the face. And she wrote "I guess the photographer didn't inspire them much" I think those two are the best. Lol.

So cute it foiled my get'away.  What is a 100% German girl , dressed to the nines, that can't speak German, doing on the streets of the city, during school time hours?
My freedom only lasted 5 hours till I was picked up by the police, because I wasn't disguised very well.  Seemed that they had a report of a missing child, and a toilet-user thief.

At least I got a chance to pee, and couldn't be found by my father.   He was so furious, picking me up from the police station.  I got caught fare and square.  My crime ?  I used a pay toilet in a public park, not knowing you had to pay to use them, and got frightened by the attendant (screaming in German) and ran.  I certainly didn't want to go back to were he was, because I ran from him too because he wasn't listening to me begging to pee.  A girls got to do what a girls GOT to do, Right?

It didn't take much detective work on the police's part to put the facts together of my crime.  I was released with a stern warning and a fine of 0.25 marks. My father was likely given even a more stern lecture, by the police.  I begged the police to put me in jail.  Seriously BEGGED in English.
My father on the other-hand, was much more punitive to me as he whipped my ass with a leather belt till my mother stepped in______ as I passed out .   My father was not a very understanding individual. His history, is being part of Hitlers Youth,  It was forced upon him yet still the brainwashing exists.  I hated him while growing up because anything could set him off, explosively.

...... Damn him and his perfect German language abilities.  I was cursed in ways I didn't understand but cried anyhow.  German, sounds angry with a raised voice.  When he was pissed off, he spoke in German...   I guess I'm glad I didn't understand his scolding, and grew up with books instead.
I can laugh about it now as he is soon to be in a grave.

SuperGirl, summed up the story perfectly in a different situation, but so aptly written.

Black and White Photographs  can be very powerful.  My father was  using Kodachrome, mostly, and the colors seem exaggerated, but it was the newest technology at the time. The dresses my mother made worked very well with the film.  Some of his black and white photos of my mother, is purely stunning.  They can really capture a mood, or even set one.
I'll never fault my father for his artistic 'Eye'.
A horrible man, but an artistic genius.

Oh do tell Ceres....  Up's and downs, sound fun !!!

Who ever would want to hear the story of me:

How is this for a title:
The Girl who Refused Christmas Presents.

A seriously true story.  I was about 6 when I began to  hide under my bed, on Christmas eve.  My mother would have to drag me out from under it kicking and screaming, on Christmas morning.  Those family pictures was of tear stained cheeks.  Flush with a white pale face from lack of sleep and total understanding of what was to come.  No time to play with toys.  I was the barbie doll who was dressed up, at least a dozen times over the course of the day.  Arms yanked this way and that.  "Don't eat that 'cause you'll get your fingers and dress dirty.  gurrrr.  I always got clothes, and a small token gift, from my mother. (Bless her heart.  She somehow manged to sneak me in a toy she manged to buy with the change saved from grocery shopping.)  I wouldn't unwrap it though until she was alone with me, and took off the paper herself. My father taught me to fear anything that was gift-wrapped.

Oh my,
I just started to cry.  I guess somethings are very hard to forget, and remember.

I used to look at this little angel chime, that had candles that powered a little fan on top, and wished I could just be swept away, as fast as the heat rising from the flickering flames.  It was the only relaxation I got, was to watch them spin around and the rhythmic ding, as they passed by the bell.  Hoping I could be as invisible as the angels that I was told existed in church.  I never got that present.

This habit of mine continued till I was almost 13,( birthday in January) and my mother said to my father to leave me alone for once. I stayed in my room for 48 hours, only leaving to use the bathroom and drinking water from the faucet. The more I heard my brothers and sister laugh, the harder I cried.  Merry Christmas.  Only my mother was allowed in my room during this time and she did her best to cheer me up.  I was just to heart broken to do anything but let her cuddle me and read me a 'Christmas' story from a novel she always bought for me as I grew older. It seemed that she always read the first few chapters as my Christmas gift from her.  She was always a reader and from my earliest memories, she held me close and read to me.  It was the only thing that could calm me down from emotional devastation.  Christmas time just hurt me so badly at a young age, as irrational as it sounds.

Heartbreaking memories did change my life though, once I had children of my own.  I made new traditions, and made sure to give my children a childhood they could be proud to remember.  So this story didn't need to have a tragic ending.

Post script :  I didn't learn this till much later in life, that my mother had dyslexia.  Reading to me was very difficult for her to do,  but I believe it was her way of helping herself deal with the disability.  When she was killed the first thing I noticed on her bed stand table was the book; Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz  sure enough a book mark in the center of the book.  I read it during the days leading up to her funeral. (In her bed even, right where she would pick up the book.)  It was spooky in that it felt like I was reading it to her, to finish the story.  A Ghost story, I highly recommend reading btw.....

Oh do share your poems Ceres.

I had to take some time away from the Pub today.

I got a special treat from my son today.  It is not often his wife lets him take a day-off, when he has a day off from work.  Today my daughter-in-law wanted to go shopping with her mother,  So my sweet son did the same with me.  EXCEPT we did something much more fun.  He took me into the mountains to sight in his new weapon.  He also has a concealed carry license, and because I taught him how to shoot it is sort of a tradition that we share the adventure of learning how to handle new weapons.   His purchase was junk in my opinion, but of course I didn't say that to him.  I proved it to him.

It was very fun though, because I also brought out some heavy weapons and cans of food, as targets.  We both carry 9mm pistols, except mine is more accurate, at longer distances.  His will work fine enough at close range, but even he noticed the difference in how they handled.  His little 'pea-shooter fit better in my hand, but he was more comfortable shooting mine.  It was another opportunity for me to teach a 23 year old man.  Learn and live.

He brought out a 'Go-pro' camera, that is one of his newest toys to play with, and wanted to capture some of the destruction on video.  This is what I found to be the most fun.  Shooting guns is sort of dull for me, because I've done it for many years.  What was interesting to me was watching video's of it, on the computer.  He is skilled at that .  So once he discovered his weapon was just not up to anything Video worthy,  I took out my toys to play with.  Oh my !!!

Cans of soup, vaporized.  Cans of corn, spread out over 25 yards.  The wild-life will be fed well tonight.

A cute thing happened though just as we were getting ready to leave and cleaning up the site, of all the remains of the metal cans.  A Father and a daughter showed up also wanting to shoot at the same location.  It touched my heart to see him taking the time to teach a girl of about 12 years old to shoot a weapon.  It was awesome to see a mirrored reflection of my son and I.  I talked to the father at length, and congratulated him,  and thanked him for his service because I noticed he was a member of the armed services.  He was shocked that I would notice a small decal on his truck and was surprised even more to learn, I was my sons mother......
Silly little life experiences are so priceless.

At my age, 45 BTW, not over the hill quite yet, it is importaint to be part of those memories a child will hold onto long after I'm gone.  With his father now dead, I feel it is even more important to take the time to do things, that really are not my first choices of what I would call 'FUN'.  I can't exactly taking him shopping with me for new dresses.  I was blessed though, that his father and I had so much in common though.  I didn't mind a little dirt and grime with him, and my son didn't come to know me as a prissy-princess. I was the mom, who could and allowed the mud to be tossed into the air.

It is a treasure I hope he remembers, about me for a long time to come.  Not one of any value, but one that came directly from my heart and the love I have for my baby boy.
