i genuinely don't understand when artists say stuff like "i can't draw fat people/poc/poc features/ect it doesn't fit my art style" like it doesn't make sense, consider you just have a bad art style if youre gonna just say that a characteristic that many people have just don't "fit in" with your art

people who think cancel culture suck don't realize that nobody actually gets "cancelled" and that accountability is a good thing

How? Can you explain your logic? Like I understand if something is legitimately problematic to the point of actual bigotry but bashing people for being into something just because you deem it overrated/cringey/not adhering 100% to your own likes and interests is kinda terrible

95% of current usage of "let people enjoy things" is the same as current usage of "cringe culture." these phrases have nothing to do w people being treated badly for something harmless and are actually about either fair criticism of their interests or just someone daring to voice even the vaguest personal dislike of their interests and people pretending they think that fair criticism and/or personal dislike is in some way a personal attack on them. saying "let people like things" is just creating a weird space of never thinking critically about your interests in any way if you refuse to also let people dislike things

Pls don't cancel me, but even if Hamilton the musical is historically inaccurate and Hamilton wasn't half the guy Lin Manuel made him out to be, that doesn't take away from the fact that I enjoy the musical for the art form it is - the staging is exquisite and the dancers/performers are incredible. I don't need art to teach me history, I can crack a book and make my own conclusions.
that'd be valid if it didn't function as propaganda :/
Can you explain what you mean? I'm not American so haven't really thought of it in that way..
Hamilton was a slave owner and participated in genocide but the musical glosses over it and glorifies him, i heard there was a musical called the haunting of Lin Manuel thats like Hamilton but historically accurate...i havent watched either tho bc i think its boring </3 like I'd rather watch cats

i agree. sort of. but "cancelling" and "accountability" are two different things.
people with power being held accountable for their shitty behaviour is super important and many of these people who whine about cancel culture are just mad that they're being called out because the voiceless are now able to share the same social platforms as them (i see you JK Rowling)
BUT
taking people's worst moments and problematic tweets and using this as a judgement of their entire character and worth as a human being, (without actually engaging with them to try to explain why it was wrong and giving them the opportunity to do better) and skipping straight to condemnation isn't really a good look

some people are just assholes who will never change their shitty ways and some people just did a fucked up thing and deserve an opportunity to right their wrongs, i see too many people try to paint them with the same brush
