I struggled with insomnia and intense sleep paralysis when I was a teenager. I am talking 10ish bouts of sleep paralysis a night, it was horrid. Did many all nighters during this time. It sorted itself out eventually, my teenage years were a dark time so I think thats where the sleep problems stemmed from. I will say though, I had been frightened of the dark and ghosts since I was young and didn’t even sleep without the light on until I was very old lolll. Nowadays I sleep too much and find it hard to get up. I put on a gazillion alarms all spread out around my room to help me get up which usually does the trick.

i've always had rlly bad sleep issues, escitalopram has helped a lot with anxiety and depression issues that led to some of it- but my add brain still causes issues for me. I usually take like 3-4 hours to fall asleep if not more, and somehow always end up being nocturnal. I've never been able to maintain a normal sleep schedule for more than a week. I never take sleep medication either because they always make me feel like crap the next day, and half the time don't even help me fall asleep. I've tried lots of the at-home stuff too but still haven't found anything that really works for me :(
I'm hoping it will get better once I have a career with stable hours.

I've had sleep problems ever since I was a kid. I grew up with epilepsy that was made worse by lack of sleep, so insomnia wasn't exactly my friend. I used to take melatonin and built a tolerance to it, which was less than great. Now that I'm older I've mostly outgrown my seizures, but I do still have problems sleeping. Lately I've been having lots of problems with sleep paralysis when I first wake up--does anyone have any advice on how to deal with it?
Hey beewing. I used to get really bad sleep paralysis pretty much non stop every night. It helped to sleep on my side and not on my stomach or back but that didn’t stop it, just lessened it (but as I said it was nonstop for me). I also used to see really terrifying things like a lot of people do when having SP and so keeping my eyes shut or head down as best as possible stopped me from seeing anything freaky. The only other tip I have is to just surrender when its happening, that makes it pass quicker.

i have suffered from intense and nightly sleep paralysis and night terrors since i was 5. i used to sleep walk but that has lessened over the years. i find that taking naps during the day makes it worse at night, the more tired i am the better. i usually end up staying awake ridiculously late (like 6/7am) because i feel too anxious about the act of even going to sleep. recently though i got a weighted blanket and have started taking sleep aids (like melatonin though it doesn't help much) but the weighted blanket + sleeping with a blanket or pillow over my eyes and feeling super squished in has done wonders. my sleep is still far from perfect but it makes the whole bedtime process less anxiety inducing!

Some nights I sleep more than others. Last night, I slept about 10 hrs. Tonight, I can't fall asleep despite taking a melatonin-herbal blend product. I have a weighted blanket (7 kg) but tonight I still feel restless, running my legs back & forth across the mattress. I suspect it is a stimming behavior related to my ADHD.
I also frequently change position. Anyone else physically restless in bed?

There are also some anxious thoughts--thinking about what I need to pack for my move, thinking about work tomorrow...I always always always journal before bed but these thoughts are still there. I frequently meditate before bed or even try to do it in bed but my mind wanders...

I have been having insomnia again  despite trying to follow a bedtime routine. I even took my "as needed" medication tonight.

I was in bed thinking about a memory...I was about 5 years old when I spent a night at my aunt's house. I always had sleep issues. My aunt tucked me into bed & ran a finger over my face.  She said it was supposed to help me sleep. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone else doing that. Anyone else?

My best guess is that it was supposed to be relaxing.

I can't wait to see my dr on Monday. I haven't been sleeping well despite my prescription medication. I feel worn out. I try to go to bed. I toss & turn & don't get restful sleep.  So, I continue  to feel worn out.
