Yeah, I feel that.
I've tried multiple meds over the years. My new Beau seems concerned about my sleep. I keep telling him this is who I am & who I've been since childhood. This is my baseline.

But sometimes I still wish I could have a good night's rest & wake up feeling refreshed.

Ever since I can remember I have had insomnia. I never really spoke up about it because I thought it was normal.
As a child I was made to watch a lot of horror movies and this resulted in a restless/paranoid sleep regime.
I was terrified of the dark because it always seemed to look endless, even with the light that I knew was supposed to be peering through the windows.
My mom had given me childrens liquid Ibuprophen and this did seem to help for a time but I think my body got used to it.
This then affected my grades and learning abilities, my focus and the ability to stay awake, let alone not have painful anxiety.
Every light seemed brighter than usual and everything seemed to bother me.
Somewhere around the age of 6 I started developing this strange rare occurrence, to which I was partially aware of getting out of bed, but not entirely in control of my subconscious telling me to move.
Its as if I can live out and project my dreams and suddenly find myself wondering why I stood up or why I said what I heard myself say. Once middle school started, I woke up every hour, on the hour and it was a mixture of my fear for things in the dark and the pressure of knowing I had to wake up, then i found myself wondering how m days would go.
Fast forward to adulthood now and now I see things moving but im not fully awake, I often have nightmares and my body wakes me up because im in constant pain. Ive been prescribed sleep medication and it made me too drowsy to even wake up for school most days, Ive had melatonin and it too makes me drowsy, tylenol pm but long term can damage the liver.
So far I have looked into the psychological part of it, to where I have read that putting your phone away 30 minutes before sleep that it helps your mind wind down. Then I really enjoy sleepy time tea and warm milk, books also help speed up the "bore process". Nightly rituals, so spraying your pillow with sleep sprays, getting your bed set up all cozy and getting everything in place for the next day. Finding a sleep buddy on the phone has helped me.
And waking up and staying out of it for as long as possible will definitely train your body to think that the bed is where we rest.
Somtimes when we're constantly in our beds we tend to forget that our body doesnt have a clear sign of what comfort really is because it becomes used to it.
For the same reason that toddlers need to be tired out to get their energy out, we also need reasons to exhaust our mind.

In any case, I hope this was helpful and thanks for reading til the end.^,.,^

I've got chronic fatigue syndrome/post viral fatigue so I don't really have an issue falling asleep but I don't remember what it's like to wake up feeling rested or better than when I went to bed. Usually wake up still tired AND in pain from being in 1 position all night! As a teen I did have insomnia that resulted in me staying up all night into the morning and then finally passing out and sleeping a few hours during the day. I wish I had any advice but it just suddenly stopped after a while and I have no idea what did it.

Find yourself a good local Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  The acupuncture will help balance you out and there are herbal formulas that can help to "calm the shen" (calm the mind) to allow you to sleep, and if you are lucky enough to find one that is also trained in the Tui-Na (Chinese Therapeutic Massage & Adjustment) even better.

TCM and acupuncture can help for regular fatigue but it can't cure serious medical issues.
Since TCM is a mostly faught with pseudoscience, I wouldn't recommend it over proven medical care.
I've really wanted to try acupuncture to help my muscle fatigue, maybe when the pandemic is over I'll see if it helps me :D

TCM is the oldest continually practiced, literate, secular medicine practiced on the planet with going on 4000 years of compiled knowledge.  I can tell you that TCM provides the finest Women's Healthcare available, unless you actually need surgery.  Let's see, if I'm not mistaken, Allopathic Medicine (Western Med) has about 200 years of practice.  There is nothing "Pseudo" about TCM, like all medical systems, there are some areas that we don't perform as well as Allopathic, or Naturopathy, or Homeopathy, and others that we outperform them.  However, overall, it is one of the most profound medical systems being used, with very few areas that we're out performed.  The two most obvious are where there is an absolute need for surgery, and the other is in fast acting acute infectious disease due to the slow response of herbal medicines.  While we can prescribe herbal formulas that are highly effective, in a fast acting infectious disease it simply takes too long to get sufficient amounts of active herbs into the system, whereas chemical meds are faster and can therefore address the problem.  However, for conditions that aren't life threatening, the Chinese Herbal Formulas have been successfully working for thousands of years, and continue to work even now.  Western pharmaceutical drugs are already having problems.
