my mother passed on the 28th of march and I have literally not had a good day since. i might smile and laugh with my family but I feel extremely empty now considering she was the only person who made me feel welcome and made me feel heard like everi'm so sorry for your loss, paniccdrillz </3 i'm sending you all my love
Sorry, this is sort of a ramble.hey, i'm writing a bit late but i just relate to it so much that i have to reply. i lost motivation to do anything in high school and gave up on all my hobbies. i was miserable and i hadn't done anything about it. this year i started college even though i didn't want it. i was constantly told that after high school there's not much you can do without college. and as it started had a full on mental breakdown because i just couldn't take it anymore. i basically quit it from the beginning. i started going to therapy and it helped me a bit. so i'm going to share what my therapist helped me realize, because i felt almost the same. first of all, you don't need to meet your family's expectations. i mean every parent thinks highly of their kid and they sometimes put a lot of pressure on them, which obviously isn't a good thing since it leads to the child feeling worthless. i am sorry you feel that way. but the thing is, your value isn't in how smart you are or what your grades are. there is so much more to it like how you treat your family and friends, are you kind, are you funny, your interests, your wins and failures, every experience of yours is what makes you you. you should let go of your parents' and society's expectations and set your own goals. it's not easy, but it can be something little, like, as you said, getting back into flute. but you will feel so much better when you accomplish it. i obviously don't know your family situation but i'm sure the most important thing is that you are happy, not a genius. even though i think you are being to harsh on yourself. i am really sorry about your mental state, i've been there and it sucks.
Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to offer. I'm not very smart and I was always told that I was as a child and now that I've gotten older and I haven't really lived up to that expectation of myself, it's hard. The only thing I'm good at I didn't keep up after high school and I knew I would never make it professionally even though I do think I was pretty good (I play flute). I think this is rearing it's ugly head because I've finally (tmi) started my period 4 days late and I'm in a lot of pain and I'm hormonal, but it's hard. I think playing flute again would make me happy but I think the loss of the clear tone I had in high school would discourage me. Maybe I should buy a book of music to get back in the groove. I was 1st chair by the time I was a senior and I feel like maybe I shouldn't just give it up. I'm not sure. My mental health has been on a steady decline since I graduated almost 2 years ago. I've barely picked my flute up since then. I just miss playing. What I really miss is marching but I can't do that anymore. And even if I could go to college and march, most college bands only march piccolos and I don't really like piccolo. I played it for 3 years in high school and it's just not really for me. I'm not really sure what to do.
