I have anxiety probably because i had ADHD that went undiagnosed for so long (:
since getting medicated for both ive been so so sooo much better ! if you think you have both, stimulants could help calm your anxiety if its related to things like not being able to focus or finish things. Good luck to everyone looking for help & I can try to give some advice vis a vis medicine if anyone needs (੭`ω`)੭̸*✩⁺˚

I haven't gone to get diagnosed yet since I'm anxious and don't know how to approach it, but I think I do have ADHD. The symptoms affect my every day life, especially my schoolwork growing up (and now my uni work)! I hope to get a diagnosis soon though (after Covid-19 and everything ahah)

I have ADD so I'm not physically hyperactive like is typical for ADHD but instead my brain machine is always overworking itself and creating a mess lol on top of that I also have autism, anxiety, depression, and hypersensitivity so there's all kinds of fun stuff going on in my brain, I didn't get diagnosed until I was 20 so I never learned how to cope especially with executive dysfunction :( I hope I will be able to find a support system for myself during college and get someone to help me with my school work otherwise I might have to look into getting meds which won't be a problem I just find it confusing on how and where to start with getting them but we'll get there when we get to it lol

I didn't get diagnosed with ADD until this past year and I'm in my late 20s LOL. I made a new friend last year and he has been taking meds for his ADHD since he was a kid, and he was like... "You have SEVERE ADD, girl. Please see a psych" lmao uhhhh it all made sense honestly. I was such a piss poor student when I was in school, and I've dropped out of community college 3 times as an adult (to be fair, I was always working full time, and I would take too many classes and burn myself out). I was in a gifted education program, my test scores were great, but my grades were such a mixed bag honestly I just wouldn't do my homework if the subject wasn't interesting to me. There was no way I was doing something if I didn't personally care about it. It drove my parents crazy. But they never thought to have me evaluated. so. WTF...

Executive disfunction is still something I struggle with, and I really don't like taking meds unless I have a lot of stuff to do and projects that MUST be finished. I always procrastinate and I struggle to find the motivation to do even things that I WANT to do. Still trying to figure out how to finish something without waiting until the final hour.
To cope, I love making lists of stuff I need to do, even common tasks like washing the dishes or grocery shopping. Usually I don't finish everything but being able to cross off 2 or 3 tasks feels like an accomplishment. I use colored pens to write my lists and make them feel cute and rewarding. Baby steps!!

i've been dealing with untreated adhd for the past All My Life and honestly now that i'm an official adult it's wrecking me... i've finally convinced my parents to get me a diagnosis and possibly (they're very much against it) get medicated but they don't have to deal with the constant executive dysfunction that prevents me from doing many things i want to do aghahgg.
anyway it's nice to see fellow folks with adhd here! it is a weird world out there for us so we must support each other!!

this is a really nice thread! I got diagnosed with ADHD when i was a junior in high school, but apparently, you're supposed to get therapy to help you manage executive dysfunction, not just medication? I'm hoping this is something I can teach myself without involving a therapist, bc, I don't enjoy metal health authorities. Had a bad experience with one, but it's not so much that i'm traumatized by that, as it is, that it was very... illuminating, as to the way doctors can be just another kind of cop. I think we need to advocate for ourselves and do as much research as we can on our own.

I've got inattentive type ADHD!I was diagnosed way back in elementary school but my early experiences with medications went really bad (like I was hallucinating and doctor didn't believe me). My psychiatrist and my school both handled things supper poorly and by the end of it my mom was so fed up she decided to have me go cold turkey on meds (Dangerous - don't do that. I was fine but you might not be) and start homeschooling.
Homeschooling proved to be a better environment for coping with my ADHD (tho it was def still an issue) unfortunately now that I'm trying to transition into adulthood it's become more of an problem again. I started going to therapy and am in the process of trying to find the medication + dose for me. It's a work in progress but it's already going much better this time :)
I feel like my current doctors really listen to me and take my concerns seriously and makes a world of difference!

hi maya! potentially controversial take based on personal anecdote ahead:

i was diagnosed with adhd as a teen, got prescribed adderall, and took it daily as instructed by my doc (not sure if this is the standard) even when i didn't really need it over the summer cause i didn't have school. i developed a horrible skin picking problem, i couldn't eat anything, i couldn't sleep, and it friiiied my brain. still took it every day like my doctor told me to. i was on way too high of a dose as well, it was increased even when i was displaying bad side effects and i got put on another drug to help me sleep and try and give me an appetite instead of just lowering my addy dose. i went back to normal when i had to stop taking it cause i couldn't afford it lmao. i have other adhd homies with similar negative medication experiences. these adhd drugs are dangerous and even if taken as directed they can have harmful effects. it's meth! like damn it's really meth lmao. soooooo many doctors are just pill-pushers. but that's just my experience, it seems like a lot of people itt have had good doctors and medication can be helpful. just be really careful

maca root is kind of like nature's adderall and didn't make me rip my skin off but i can't take it cause of my birth control. if it doesn't interact with any medication you might be on, i recommend it instead of legal meth.

Yeah...I'm not a big fan of therapy but yes, you are "supposed" to get therapy to help with executive functioning. My sig other also has ADHD & their counselor works with them on goal setting. I have tried counseling but find that counselors aren't necessarily able to help with what I want help with (like poor concentration & restlessness).

There are definitely things you can work on on your own.
Ex. I have a physical planner I write down to-do lists in, in addition to using my Google calendar for appointments & reminders. (I suggested this to a friend who didn't have Google/Gmail & her digital calendar doesn't have a reminders option! Gmail/Google calendar has options for Events, Reminders, and Goals.) I find having these planners/calendars/lists is helpful. When I get distracted, I have a list to come back to. I can cross things off as I go & see what I still have left to do.
Ex. If you are restless like me, get some fidget toys! I have a Tangle, multiple stress balls, & a fidget spinner to name a few. Some people also like rubbing a ribbon or other nice feeling cloth. I used to do that but have upgraded to more active toys.

There are probably also some ADHD Self-help books, but I can't recommend any. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I have also heard some people with ADHD like essential oils for concentration. Does anyone on here use them? What do you like?
