i wish my professors were the same :( mine don't believe me without official diagnosis which is... so strange to me considering the college i go to is fully aware 90% of its attendees are poor and would have to go miles just to find a professional who is actually qualified and not extremely costly. like dude? if i had the ability to get an official diagnosis i'd do it immediately!! i know they're probably not allowed to just listen to their students without "proof" but that's such a classist mindset, especially when barely anyone in my community gets the accommodations and help they clearly need..

hey im 19 and i like HEAVILY suspect i may have adhd (have been thinking about it and looking into it for like. 3 years now.) and it's becoming harder and harder to manage it but my parents aren't very supportive. anyone have any tips how to make do without medication/get diagnosis while still being dependant on my nonsupportive parents? id very much appreciate it^^

Hi I was diagnosed as an adult but as I age I am growing out of a lot of the traits (timing etc) - my doctor told me this is typical and ADD or ADHD is generally worse when you are younger but you can lose certain traits as you get older. For example my chronic lateness isnt such a problem anymore :) I still procrastinate and can cerainly be impulsive but it is not such a huge problem for me anymore. All the medication I tried just gave me  terrible anxiety or didnt work at all!

hi, sorry for responding so late!! that would be great! i think the biggest problem poses executive dysfunction and my attention span. i have a lot of trouble with school (paying attention during zoom classes, remembering deadlines, being unable to start my work, not responding to my teacher's emails, lack of motivation etc.) and stuff like house chores, so if you have any tips for that, i would appreciate that!!<3

I have some ideas:
1. Remembering deadlines: Get and use a planner/calendar/notebook--something to record your to-dos in. Personally, I use both a paper planner & a digital calendar. I like to cross things off my paper planner. But I also like that my Google Calendar lets me set reminders. 
2. Schedule time to check emails. I also hate checking my emails. It can feel overwhelming. I avoid doing it unless I set a time to do it. 
3. Make larger tasks into smaller tasks and plan to take breaks. Ex. When I was in school, I didn't usually write my essays in one shot. Plan for an hour for research. Then, take a break. Spend another hour writing an outline. Take a break. Write a draft. etc.
4. Or set small rewards. I remember someone once suggested eating 1 single M&M every time I finish reading a page of the textbook.
5. Fidget or get fidget toys. I cannot sit still. In-person, teachers aren't fond of this. But with online school, the teachers don't notice leg-tapping. I also have quite a few fidget toys for my hands because I can keep my hands out of the video for Zoom calls. Toys I have include different types of balls (foam balls, rubber balls, cloth bean bags), Tangle (brand name), Fidget Cube (another brand name), finger spinner, and some homemade toys my mum made. 
6. It's alright to listen to music or other background noise while you write an essay or otherwise do homework. I think there's even research that it can be helpful. 
7. Put your phone on do not disturb, if possible. I went through school without a mobile phone, so I didn't have that distraction. But, if your phone is a distraction, see if you have a setting like "do not disturb" or "temporary mute."  Or, turn the phone off or put it in another room during Zoom class, to decrease temptation to play on it during class.

no problem at all! i'll add more to what CinnamonSugar said with my own personal methods: 
- reminder apps/planners/anything of the sort have personally helped me! in fact in high school i always used my planner as a doodle book which kind of forced me to always see the tasks i've written in it for the day while doodling, and i'm a pretty anxious person so i always ended up doing my tasks just so i can keep doodling in peace LOL. it sounds silly but it works!! + if you have an iphone the reminder app is pretty useful, that or the alarm and calendar app. i like to annoy myself with constant reminders/alarms/etc that say "DO UR WORK!!!" or something of the sort. i even play around with the sounds bc i find it helpful to be so annoyed at an alarm that u end up doing the work? if that makes sense!
idk how to word this properly but i always like to imagine how thankful future me would be for doing my work. and i don't mean like me in 10 years or something, i mean me like 2 days later. i usually do my homework over the weekend so i can go on walks during sunday so i always like to imagine the me from sunday being really thankful for doing my work early so i can relax a little before a new week starts! 
i find it also helpful to have some sort of background activity/noise while doing homework tasks. i like to have bimboland up in the background usually so i can do my duels whenever they reset whilst doing homework! and duels reset every 30 mins so i think its honestly a nice break for someone with adhd, since its not too long. music also helps me in the background, but i'd say avoid listening to anything like a new album... i find myself getting distracted and looking up lyrics or researching the album instead. so use artists you're familiar with so you don't get distracted!
regarding finding motivation: its completely normal to not have motivation everyday. so don't push yourself to have to do something everyday. divide up your work into bits; maybe do an assignment or two one day, then another the next day--just bit by bit until you find yourself finished! also this is probably a me thing but i'll share anyway: i like to drink energy drinks while i work LOL, for some reason they end up working! i'm obsessed with monster energy but remember to not drink it often of course!!
that's all i can think of rn. i'm sorry if it's a lot!! but i really hope it helps. coping with adhd is hard when you don't have access to professional help, but always remember that doesn't mean its impossible and you CAN do it!! we all believe in you :D
