anyone have any tips how to make do without medication/get diagnosis while still being dependant on my nonsupportive parents?I second the planner suggestions! Having one has really helped me, I usually drop off keeping it updated about halfway through the semester bc ADD makes me bad at even planning to do things lol. But having it for that first portion helps me get in a good routine for the rest of the semester and if I feel myself slipping I'll force myself to start it up again. I'd also suggest keeping whatever you write in it super simple. I only ever write due dates (and weekly reminders for big projects) bc if I see too many things I will get overwhelmed and not do it. And if I have a bunch of things due I'll write "3 sociology assignments" so I don't see each individual one and mentally freak out.
My mom always told me growing up she thought I had ADHD but never wanted to actually get me diagnosed since I did well in school. I don't want to self-diagnose or anything but I've been struggling with my mental health for a while and I always thought things I did had to do with my anxiety or depression. Recently though I've been learning more about ADHD and it seems like I'm experiencing a lot of signs/symptoms. Like I've always struggled with keeping in contact with people, I forget to message my friends by the time I'm reminded somehow about them it's been days since they texted me so then I fell awkward texting back. I forget where things are all the time, I'll set something down and can't remember where I put it a couple seconds/min later (I've heard this kind of stuff has to do with object permanence). I've also noticed I'm hypersensitive (emotionally), social functions/gatherings overwhelm me, I have to write lists for everything in order to get them done and it's so hard to motivate myself to do anything. There's so many thing I want to try or do, like I want to learn how to flip clothing, but I can't find the motivation to do it. I always have some excuse.Hi!! Just wanted to tell you that self-diagnosing is in no way inherently bad. There's a difference between self-diagnosing with research and just randomly saying you have something with no solid basis whatsoever. From what I've seen, it's totally valid for you to self-diagnose and possibly get official diagnosis in case you need it for educational purposes since colleges/schools don't often listen if you don't have official papers. And this is coming from someone who is also self-diagnosed with ADHD after research! I wish you well on your journey.
Anyway, I kind of want to get tested to get answers cause this could all just be part of my anxiety, but idk

I guess I'm so used to people shutting down any sort of "self-diagnosis" (even with research) it makes it really discouraging to bring it up with my therapist cause I feel like its not worth it. But you're right so thanks for saying that, it honestly makes me feel better about seeking a diagnosis. Most people nowadays don't understand that we all have reasons for self-diagnosis--personally, I have absolutely no access to help as my community is generally poor and I'd have to go far to find actually good help. There's a lot of other reasons too for other people, so don't worry. It's valid to self-diagnose with research!
it makes it really discouraging to bring it up with my therapist cause I feel like its not worth it. But you're right so thanks for saying that, it honestly makes me feel better about seeking a diagnosis. So, just to clarify, have you brought it up with your therapist?
